My amp fried yesterday and I love my tunes in the truck. So I can do one of two things.

Pay up the wazoo for a correct amp that will drop right in and make all right.
    Or
Rework the system, keep the headunit and the aftermarket speakers I have in it and delete the amp entirely.

I have no option to bypass obviously.. so my big question is, can I purchase an aftermarket amp, and somehow intercept the signal from the headunit to make it power the aftermarket amp and make the speakers work again, all while using the stock HU?

Nope... Replace the radio with aftermarket and bypass the fact amp (cheapest option) unless you get a used or refurb fact amp.

People sell the JBL amp all the time. Keep searching for one and you shouldn't have to pay that much for it.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
I test drove a truck with the JBL. Sounded exactly like my non-JBL system.

I already found a resolution to this thread. I am just going to replace the headunit unfortunately. I made a follow up thread on this.

Correct, you can't bypass the amp completely. But, YES, you can intercept the signal from the factory JBL HU and run any aftermarket amp that you like. Several people on the site have done it, including myself, and there are how-to threads on here(it's very easy, simple wiring).
