Wasn't the Scrambler closer to the Wrangler than the Gladiator? Otherwise Comanche would work too.

In the 80’s Jeep had a wrangler truck.
I would have preferred Comanche myself but everyone wants to be politically correct nowadays.

    Yeah.
I just think they are overpriced a bit for what is not a very technically modern vehicle. Not doubting their capabilities, although reliability is always a question. They are fun to drive and a different animal from the Tacoma. This beast may steal a little bit of market share from Chevy and Toyota, but my bet would be that it will steal more from other Jeep models. As they say, it's a Jeep thing.

I think the Ranger will sell better then the Gladiator. But the Jeep is way cooler.

Jeep is owned by Fiat which is Italian. Gladiators were Roman. At least its better than calling it the calzone.

I'm not a jeep fanboy however I will argue that the new Wrangler JL has more tech and modern gadgetry than a third gen Taco.

Go check one out, they're sick

And it gets terrible mileage but you know what people don’t care. They’re going to sell a metric ton of these.

This same offroad company integrated turn signals into the fenders of the JL. The one thing thats constantly bashed and replaced yet they put a DOT light in it....

LOL when has a Taco EVER tried to compete for rock crawling.

I wouldn't touch one with that 3.6L junk engine. The 4.0 was great through 2006 but then went off the cliff with the 3.8L and more worse 3.6L. Owned 7 with the 3.6L hoping they would get better over the years but only got worse.

I'm not bashing the Gladiator, it looks really cool, but I dont really understand the point of 40 degrees of approach angle and 18 degrees of breakover. Like where are you driving this thing?

So, I've played on both sides of the Jeep/Tacoma fence and have loved them both for their unique points. I currently drive a Wrangler Unlimited and have for almost 5 years (sold my 2nd gen Tacoma to get it, sold my 1st gen Tacoma to get that.) I have considered jumping back to Tacoma several times in the past 3 years just for the bed but knew the truck was in the works and stuck to what I owned.

I think there is some oddly combative talk in this thread about us vs them (Jeep v Toyota)... its just a truck. I have yet to truly appreciate why you care what I drive, or why I should care what you drive. The important thing is, Jeep saw the Tacoma and said: "we could compete in that space" and the Gladiator happened. As a Tacoma person, I would be saying... "Look at what can be done, Toyota, time to up your game." Tacoma has long been the only real, viable vehicle in this space... so this new Jeep is a GREAT thing for all parties involved. Same with the Ranger. There will be a need to a) keep pricing competitive, b) keep features competitive and c) offer incentives to stick around. Right now, to buy a new Wrangler... you're paying whatever you can get the dealer to sell for, there are never end of year specials or anything to get units to move because they move on their own. It seems like Tacoma is the same way (Tundra on the other hand...) so hopefully, there will be a need for everyone to play nicer. This is a win for all parties involved.

All that being said, this my dream vehicle. As long as I can remove the doors and top of this truck, I'll favor it over a Tacoma. That being said, Jeep can still fuck this up by pricing themselves out of the market.

My Wrangler Unlimited has been bulletproof on and off-road. I could also easily upgrade suspension which seemed a bit more daunting in my Tacoma back in the day. Also, disk brakes and no leaf springs ftw.

I look forward to seeing a Rubicon Gladiator with a topper on it.
