So, Base Rubicon Gladiator is $10,000 more than a Base TRD OFF ROAD 4WD TACOMA?
Then figure in all the breakdowns, tows, and warranty issues of the Jeep, and it sounds perfect for the government to buy a fleet of them, lol!

The base rubicon comes with front+rear lockers, 33s, sway bar disco. room to fit 35s without cutting, more articulation, removable top etc. FWIW If you dont consider any discount on the rubicon or the base OR tacoma with no added options is 34985 making it $8560 less. Once you add a front locker, swaybar disco, 33s (which would need a lift) you're easily closing that number to only a grand or two, unless you do the work yourself and buy entry level parts. Still wont have a convertible top. I know everyone will argue for or against these trucks, this is a Toyota site. But cant really see arguing that the price is too high when you look at the options on the rubicon. The sport S is a more accurate comparison to a base TRD OR. With a locker those will be essentially the same cost as the TRD OR, if not less.

Also, I never planned on the breakdowns and tows and warranty issues with my 2017 Tacoma, but they happened. It happens.

60k? FFS I bought my Rubicon in 2005 for $23k and at the time that was considered very expensive for a Jeep...

The Tacoma has A-TRAC (MTS/CRAWL) which in many ways is superior to a front locker and the Tacoma is IFS so the swaybar disconnect is really more beneficial to the solid axle Jeep, I would think?
I really think the Off Road TRD and Base Rubicon are the closest match due to the traction systems. The Pro and the loaded Rubicon would be the other end of the price range.

My Rubicon would literally climb a vertical telephone pole.

    My Tacoma will not.

ATRAC is nothing like a locker. It helps, but it's no locker. Locker>ATRAC all day long.

A sway bar is a sway bar. Both have them, both flex better without them and handle better on-road with them. The newer Rubi's can disconnect them with the flick of a switch.

That 4:1 crawl ratio is a hell of a step up to the 2.56:1 the taco has as well.

Jeeps are fun as they'll climb just about every obstacle you encounter !!!!

    Let's see a Tacoma do this !!!

My Tacoma never lets me down. Climbs up cliffs and never gets stuck (thanks to the A-TRAC) and I had two other Tacomas with the locker but no A-TRAC and the current Tacoma is in a world of its own different with the A-TRAC.
My Jeep (bought new) had nearly everything fail.

Atrac is great but it requires wheel slippage to work and works by braking one wheel, it just doesn't have the control of a front locker, especially in situations you don't want wheel slippage

I think it has a lot of cool features. I agree with those who mentioned it would not be an ideal daily driver. My biggest complaint would probably be noise. It is hard to make a vehicle with a cab that comes apart that also has good noise damping and water intrusion mitigation.

I would be very pleased if the competition causes Toyota to implement a front locker and a disconnecting sway bar. Perhaps light alloy steel full coverage skids like the Bison. If I’m dreaming, a factory winch as well like the Power Wagon. After market mods are fun but a $50k or so truck ready to go from the factory would be nice.

Ultimately I won’t buy anything Chrysler makes because they haven’t addressed their historical reliability issues to my satisfaction. Perhaps one day they will but it will take some overwhelming evidence to convince me.

I thought this was an April fool's joke, then I realized you posted this last night lol

A Rubicon is nothing like a TRD Offroad in capability.

You'd think on-road comfort would suffer a lot, but it's not bad. I find my 2012 Wrangler more comfortable on the inside than the Tacoma all because of seating position and cabin arrangement.

If this was available in 2013 when I was looking for a Tacoma, I would have gladly gotten a Gladiator without thinking twice.

Sadly, the reality is that I've outgrown both now with towing needs and I probably won't ever own a midsize again. If I did, it's an easy choice, Jeep for sure.
