There's no way that MTS /Crawl control is superior to front locker as you've mentioned . I take it you've never rode or driven a Jeep with locked front and rear axles before ?? . I've driven many Rock Crawlers over the years with locked front / rear axles like Detroit lockers or spools and have gone places that even a Jeep with a LSD front and Detroit locker in the rear couldnt go

I'd like to see how far a new Tacoma would go with its MTS / Crawl control . let's say for instance the Jack hammer trail at the Hammers in Johnson Valley Ca

The proportions of the body and the bed are a bit off imo.

I dunno bro. Crawl control can do this

    https://youtu.be/19BNRvuNLWE

Pretty certain I would have to just abandon my Tacoma without crawl control if it were ever in that situation.

You can build and get pricing now at Jeep.com. TLDR: Expensive buggers, may as well just get the Rubicon.

I built the entry level Sport with autotrans, Trak-LOk anti-spin rear axle, hardtop, basic tow package, aux switch pkg, smoker's pkg. $39,405. Apparently, you can't get the Cargo Management Pkg on the Sport (bed rails and 115v outlet in bed), nor can you get the various soft tops.

Sport S with autotrans, Cargo Management, 7-inch display, Trak-Lok rear diff, hardtop, block heater, base tow pkg, Aux switch pkg, smoker's pkg, $45,185.

Overland with autotrans, Cargo Management, 8.4-inch display, Trak-Lok rear diff, hardtop, block heater, base tow pkg, Aux switch pkg, smoker's pkg, $48,840.

Rubicon with autotrans, Cargo Management, 7-inch display, hardtop, block heater, base tow pkg, Aux switch pkg, smoker's pkg, winch-capable front bumper, $51,490.

So can a low geared jeep that's locked front /rear

My last Jeep I had was a 68 M38A1 with a Buick V6 , GM 1 ton SM465 granny 4spd , modified Dana 18 t/case , Warn overdrive , Dana 44's front / rear with Detroit lockers and the rear axle was a full floater with locking hubs

My overall low range gearing was 124:1 , 6.54 1rst gear , 3.50 low range , and 5.38 gears with the overdrive which provided 25% reduction I could split ea gear and had the capability of 12 forward 3 reverse gears

In low range it was 3k rpm at 5mph and if going down a steep hill it would take forever unless I increased throttle input

This is a pic of my old jeep and I idled up this hill , no throttle input whatsoever

I can only imagine the premium the Canadian prices will have on top of the currency exchange. I just built a Rubicon on the US jeep site and it came out to $58,840 USD which currently equals $78,525 CAD.

That is pretty insane, but it's not any more expensive than the luxury full size truck trims either. I am sure the used prices will be pretty high as well and there is no way I could ever see myself spending that kind of money on a vehicle.

They do look pretty cool though and I definitely want one

That breakover angle is a problem, and that's a Rubicon with 33's. 35's you'd only get 1" more clearance.

Ya but imagine if you had crawl control. You wouldn't need all that. Just turn a knob.

If I was building a offroad vehicle and had a 50,000 budget. I wouldn't start with a unreliable POS jeep.

I hope their diesel lights a fire under Ford to make a diesel ranger then in 10 years Toyota will make a diesel tacoma and I'll consider trading in my truck. Toyota moves so slow.

Agreed. ;) Crawl control is really just a cruise control for ATRAC. ATRAC simply actuating brakes on each side to simulate a locker on the front. A 4:1 transfer case and 4lo with a front locker will accomplish the same thing. Ultimately I know its fruitless to argue this point here though.

I like both the Wrangler and the Tacoma, throwing any Toyota bias aside Im confident that the driver is the biggest variable in these situations. Aside from that the Jeep is a better vehicle for off roading and the Tacoma for daily livability.
