    I was being facetious :anonymous:

Crawl control is a gimmick. Especially compared to a 4:1 and dual lockers. 2.56:1 sucks a fart against a 4:1.

Price points are nice on the Gladiator depending on dealer markups. If I woulda known I coulda got a Gladiator Rubicon for $43k, I would have held off buying my JLU Rubicon.

1st year productions don't scare me. 7 yr/75k mile warrenty and your good go.
Doubt I'll even mod it except to throw some 35's on it. No lift, no rub.

The proportions on the Gladiator are going to look a bit off being a 4 door, short bed.

No different than the 1st gen double cabs that also looked a bit wierd without a lift and tires.

Clearly, there is some misunderstanding plus those who have not really tested the A-TRAC or MTS do not realize the capacity of the Toyota (Bosch) systems.

I am NOT saying anything is overall better... there is some difference between lockers and A-TRAC/MTS.

There are advantages to both and I know Tacoma owners who have both A-TRAC and front lockers (ARB) because they devote more of their off-roading to serious rock crawling.

That the tire rotation is being matched across the axle using gears or brakes is not a problem and both systems work effectively...

The locker will not hesitate, it will just spin both tires together rather that does any good or not.

The A-TRAC will allow a little slip before "locking" or matching tire rotation... this ensures ease of steering on tight trails, no need to repeatedly lock and unlock just to make tight turns. Spin sensors on all four wheels tell the system which tire has no traction and how much brake force to apply so it only rotates the same as the tire with traction. It works!

I have had 3 Tacomas, two with the rear locker (2001, 2005) and this one (2010) with A-TRAC and the rear locker. On trails I took the first two, that required the rear locker because of big rocks, ruts and steep climbs, the A-TRAC only did better and drove easier than the rear locker (without A-TRAC)... and this was giving me limited to no slip on the front tires that I did not have before.

There are a couple of YouTubes of my A-TRAC at work, like pulling a stuck 2WD Tacoma out of a sand dune then up the Diablo DropOff in Anza-Borrego:

Indeed. Breakover angle on the Gladiator Rubi is 20 deg. On the Tacoma it's 24 deg (and 26 deg on TRD Pro). The Tacoma is able to tuck its fuel tank completely to the bottom of the frame, whereas on the Gladiator it still protrudes below, necessitating a heavy belly skid.

They are not a bad price... 33k for the sport up to 45k for the Rubicon. It is looking pretty good and I an definitely going to be looking when they get the eco diesel engine. Dana 44s already in it, higher tow capacity than the Tacoma, same bed size for me. I guess only time will tell.

Yeah, base price for the Rubicon would lead me to buying it instead of trying to comparably outfit the lesser trims.

I built a Rubicon on Jeep.com for $51k, but that was with the $2k autotrans, $900 Cargo Management Pkg (bed rails and 115v bed outlet), and the winch-ready front bumper (have to add the LED Lighting Pkg) $1600, and $1200 hardtop.

Just a stock manual Rubicon with the $250 tow package (no brainer), it's $45k including the $1500 destination charge.

Mine is the base model with premium top and tow package. 3.6 liter, and upgraded 8.5 uconnect. Had a few other things added that I can't remember, but a base no less.

Listed for $48k. Dropped to $45k (end of the year clearance) $42.5k otd with my Scat pack trade in.
    G.E. discount.
    Friends and family discount.

Prior to Christmas of 2018 when I purchased it, talk of the base Rubicon Gladiator was like $55-$60k. No way I could have afforded that so I went ahead with the JLUR.

Now that pricing is out....i wished I hadn't been so impatient. But I'm super happy with the JLUR, no doubt about that.

^Can you fold/remove the rear seats to sleep in the JLUR? Would be hard to do in a Gladiator with its 5' bed.

Yes, the split rears almost fold entirely flat.
When you grab the plastic handle, it folds the headreasts at a 45 deg angle facing the windshield. Then the seat folds down and the headrest is tucked down nice, facing the floor.

I'm 6ft and have yet to see if I fit for sleeping.
But there is a guy on yt that does it and even has a small cot that's raised a few inches up that fits in the back.

You seem to be really excited about ATRAC for reasons I can't understand... I've taken my Taco up snowy hills, and in near zero traction situations ATRAC is worthless because it will apply brakes too heavily and limits wheel speed, which you actually need when climbing a snowy hill. The experience was jarring, and objectively worse than turning it off. It was also far worse than the 2015 Jeep JKU Rubicon that my dad had on that same trail that he was breaking ground with. ATRAC is no replacement for true lockers front and rear. Most of the time it's un-intrusive, but sometimes open diffs and lots (LOTS) of wheel speed / vehicle speed is even better than something like ATRAC forcing brakes where it's not needed.
