Profit margins are way bigger. It’s all about using as many common parts as possible. Look at the back door. It’s still got the angled cut shape from the Wrangler and doesn’t match the cab.

And really if you look at how few people actually want a non crew cab. And I would guess a good portion of those that do are fleet vehicles. Which wouldn’t be considering a Gladiator anyway.

Once upon a time a sales guy selected the Sport-Trac as his corporate vehicle. Right after, the powers-that-be decided that this vehicle needed to be transferred to my manager instead. Since I was on a nearby field job at the time, they canceled my return flight and had me drive that thing from Bakersfield CA back to Houston. That car had a 6-disc changer, all full of the sales dude's mix tapes. 6 out of 6 CD's had a different rendition of Somewhere over the Rainbow from Wizard of Oz, 4 out of 6 had the same rendition of Rainbow Connection sang by Kermit the Frog, 6 out of 6 had at least one Andrew LLoyd Weber musical (including two songs from Cats), and also I counted three Tom Jones songs. Sandwiching this in were some decent tracks from the Stones, Dylan, and the Who, which was just enough to keep me from turning it off altogether. You want to know how to slowly go insane in the lonely deserts of interstate 10? I have a fairly good idea now...

I will say this though - that Sport Trac still drove better than the company Pacifica. That company really issued some shitty vehicles to its employees.

WTF the gladiator doesn't look anything like a fricken Ford. Move on. The Tacoma looks more like a ford then the Jeep! All the haters can find somewhere else to post. It's a Jeep nuff said. I want to hear more valuable info if there is any?

I got mine last Friday and even though I put less than 200 miles on it so far I love it. Very pleasant to drive in stock configuration.

Solid axle, 4door truck with a removable roof from the factory with a 6sp MT is what dreams are made of. The pentastar V6 is reliable, my only worry is the electronics but time will tell.

At least you got MT. Would be cool to go off road with no doors and roof tho.

    Lets see some pics.

I don't know that a manual would be very fun to drive in a truck this size. I get it for light weight 2wd trucks from the 90s, but not new trucks that weigh 5k+ pounds.

Not to mention the 8-speed auto in these is fantastic.

My unlimited is around that same weight and a 6MT. Drives just fine.. still would prefer a manual any day of the week.

Maybe it wasn't obvious, although I feel like it was. His comments were probably around the weight making it not fun to drive, since most of us typically think of a manual as sporty. Of course yours "drives just fine", like sure, the clutch doesn't slip when you're trying to move a truck that heavy.

After owning a 6MT taco, I can say it was "just fine" but also kind of a shit experience. Not fun, not interesting, and not even close to sporty.

My 02 Tacoma 5spd drove like a tractor compared to this. The JT is much smoother. However the zf8speed auto I drove was incredible (just not enough for me to give up the standard.) MT is very enjoyable to drive on the road, haven’t done any off-road or towing yet.

Seems that that performance wise the auto for the JT is superior in every way. 7600# towing v 4000#. Better 0-60, computer adapts to larger tires, supposedly lifetime fluid with no maintenance. 8 speeds and it shifts super smooth.

However nostalgia won out for me.

I wonder if the gear ratios on the Taco 6MT are poorly chosen. I have a 6MT in my Frontier and I absolutely enjoy driving it. Rainy days especially.

    I mean, it’s a Jeep, or a Jeep Truck.. you don’t get a manual so it’s “sporty”

I think the manual in mine is great. Throws are long but solid, never slips, and is easy to shift when towing. Only complaint I have is I need one more gear for the highway because I’m running 4.88s

snowman is right....i prefer my manual vehicles to be sporty in nature. Winding the gears out on something slow that doesn't corner great isn't the most fun thing in the world. Sure it is more engaging than an auto, but that doesn't say much. For instance, i hated the manual in the 2017/18 tacoma, but loved it in my 84 and 86. They are vastly different driving experiences.
