First rule ... anything fits with enough brains, time, and money.

Many have said to LS swap it. I agree completely.

Find a dead 03-06 Silverado SS and grab the whole drivetrain. LQ9 on a FAST XFI/XIM stand-alone combo. 4L80E on a FAST TCU controller. Racepak dash for digital gauges. Painless Wiring kits rather than pulling the rats nest.

Lots of guys swapping hemi's from chargers into the new jeep unlimiteds. Not the same thing as what you want but as other poster's suggested just go for the engine you want using the jeep body as your frame. Get the engine, try to find someone that has done a similiar swap online, you may need to change the transmission, ecu and wiring harness of course, and swap away. Probably have to fab some pieces unless there are aftermarket makers of engine mounts for your chosen engine. People have been swapping engines that they want for years, just requires hard work and patience. I have seen chev engines in fords, LS1's in mazdas, whatever you want just make it work. Of course it is easier to follow blueprints of what others have done, but i would ditch the jeep engine and go with a v8 or whatever you can get from a wreck that will work in your jeep cherokee. Good luck.

Have you thought about visiting local junk yards?

Maybe someone got rear ended recently and they totalled their Grand Cherokee and the motor is still in tact as well as the ECU.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
My 4.7 is about the same size as the 4.0 V6. Remember you're only talking about a .7 liter difference............divided by 8
    X2
