<sees data for 5 year resale in 2019>
<sees people talk about 10+ year old resale>
<doesn't understand why people are comparing 1st/2nd gen resale with 3rd gen data>

    Am I missing something?

The data bracket is for trucks reselling from 2014 to now, so mostly 3rd gens. Of which a LOT more were built (and arguably more problems), so the resale will drop. Understandably from my perspective.

BMW's and Mercedes/and most other European brands are rich people throw away cars. They're built for luxury/status not durability. They know most owners will swap them out ever few years

I don't think the 3rd gen over the long haul will hold its value as well compared to the 1st and 2nd gen. They're now cranking these trucks out at big numbers

My friend had this problem with his 2016 BMW 4-series. It was a beautiful car, white with a red leather interior. He also lowered the suspension and added a 12" Image Dynamics sub with an external amp to the factory Harman-Kardon stereo (this is the same guy who installed a backup camera, sub, and amp in my Taco). He bought the car well below retail and even got 0% financing, but the problem is he drives a lot for work and quickly put more than 70K miles on the car within three years. Needless to say, he ended up owing more on the car than it was worth. The car never had any mechanical problems, but routine maintenance cost a fortune. He finally got fed up, traded in the car at huge loss, and leased a 2019 Lexus RX350 F-sport.

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
I hate you people who can find a '99 on the road to buy, much less trust it! In MI if a car is more than 10 years old it is highly suspicious. A '99? oh hell no! That thing would be a big box of rust held together with more rust. You couldn't get a single bolt off to do any maintenance, and the thing would leave an orange trail behind it on the road. A "reasonable" used can is one around the 5 year mark - it will last long enough to be worth the expense. 10 years old? That's a winter beater. 15 years old? A good first car for a kid, not even worth putting more than PLPD on it.

I think that well-maintained regular cabs of the first two generations are either going to become collector's items or simply skyrocket in value. The fact that regular cab production ended a year before 2nd Gen production ended and there never was a 3rd Gen RC will help push the value of RCs through the roof.

Also, a lot of RCs were purchased as fleet vehicles and work trucks, and had the shit beaten out of them. Very few that I've seen have had the same easy life as mine. My truck has minimal dents and dings and the paint still shines (left rear fender was replaced due to a drunk driver hitting me and thus the new fender was repainted). Also, my truck has less than 107K miles as of this post.

I have a group of friends I've been friends with for over a decade; Maybe a half-dozen people. All of my friends have gone through two or three cars in the last decade. I've had the same base model Tacoma!

NOTE: A few of my friends totaled their cars when they had plenty of life left in them.

    Ok,I’ll agree with you.

In that case, TFL is like an oozing sore that is fair to the Tacoma.

One of those rare times where leasing is a good idea...

Can you even lease a Leaf?

I learned something last September when I met this guy in the parking lot at Raceway Park. He had a brand new Dodge Ram 1500 regular cab long bed 2WD with the 5.7L HEMI and base "Tradesman" trim. Despite being a base model, it was pretty well loaded with power everything, Bluetooth, and even a trac-lock (posi) rear differential. He'd wanted to lease, but apparently Chrysler Group will not lease base model Rams as those are intended to be work trucks or some BS like that.

On the flipside, I know for a fact that Toyota will lease everything, and I know a locksmith who leased his 2011 RC 5-lug Taco then ended up buying it. As of 2019, I believe he has less than 60K miles on it!

I drove my uncle's 2017 AC TRD Sport 2WD automatic a couple months ago, first 3rd Gen I've ever driven. After ten years of driving a 4-banger/slushbox 2nd Gen, I was amazed by how powerful that truck was. I've driven a 2012 RC 5-speed 4x4, a couple of 2nd Gen Tundras, a 3rd Gen Tundra, and a few other Toyota trucks, but I do not think I have ever driven a 4.0L 2nd Gen!

That reminds of the "no umbrella" policies at certain events. My parents and I went to a presidential campaign event back in 2008, and my dad had to leave his umbrella in a bin. We were not supposed to get the umbrellas back, but on the way out my dad noticed that the umbrella bin was unattended and discreetly took his back.

also my favorite thing is watching them talk so much shit about the tacoma and then it consistently placing first in sales in some of their other videos.

    Their reactions are great.

I remember when I was in the home stretch of hitting 100K miles and how excited I was (I'm at almost 107K now), and I was posting mileage updates on my Facebook. One of my friends, who has a Mitsubishi Lancer as a daily driver and a couple of domestic full-size pickups for his driveway sealcoating business, commented on one of my Facebook posts that he cringed every time his truck gained even one mile...

This same friend once owned a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 in which the transmission gave out at like 60K miles; I told him that if he traded the American truck (I forget whether he owns a Chevy or something else now) for a Toyota, he probably wouldn't be cringing every time he put more miles on his truck!
