Why compare a Jeep to a Tacoma? Two totally different animals. I've had my share of Jeeps and if I were to need a strictly trail rig a Jeep would be first on the list again. The Tacoma is a better all around vehicle with a lot more uses but I would never buy one if I was just looking for a strictly off road vehicle over a Jeep. My Rubicon has pulled it's share of fullsizes out from being stuck especially on the beach. Plus come summertime a Jeep will pull a lot more ass than a Tacoma:D Just don't see the need for the comparison. It's apples and oranges.

Exactly. I've been off roading in my brother-in-laws stock jeep. It did awesome!! I love the top down go anywhere feeling. I went everywhere my dad's 89 4Runner on 35's went, but better. Hummer....well, never been in one off-road, just don't like small windows & no visibility thing, but then again, never been off-road in one.

Well said, I will add that although newer Jeeps are not bad, you can't beat an older Jeep. I miss my 78 CJ5, but like you mentioned, had to get something more practical.

Lets not be too machismo, but yes, anything prior to 1986 is much tougher than anything since Chrysler has been in charge.

Rubicons are for those people who can't BUILD their own kick-ass Jeep!!

Nothing wrong with Rubicons - but in reality, it's an 'off the shelf' offroad rig that was designed by the manufacturer. They are only 'bulletproof' in the hands of a capable & responsible offroad driver.

Ain't nothing like building your own rig!!

My thoughts exactly. You can add all the same options to a Cj7 and run circles around the Rubicon. Stock Jeeps then are 1000000x tougher than what is stock now adays. Thats like comparing a Shelby Mustang to a stock, when you add all the options you can make it a great thing, in these cases the factory does it for you.

Toyota trucks of yester-year are 10000000x better than the trucks of today.

It's all the same ..... manufacturers come up with the idea of making these sensational packages to appeal to the 'specialized' market, yet the build quality over the years still deteriorates no matter what manufacturer you're referring to.

Agreed 100%, thats why back to Jeeps I would take a pre-Chrysler Jeep over anything they've made (with comparable options of course).
