Recently purchased a c4 off-road Jerry can holder and a couple of metal military style gas cans. Cans are great and durable. Problem is when they sit in the back of the truck they pressurize so much so fast that opening them just sprays fuel everywhere. Anyone at all have any experience venting these metal cans. I’ve done plenty of plastic ones. Just don’t want to ruin a 40 dollar can if there’s a better way. Thank you.

We used to fill them right up to the top gives less room for vapours to form. We used to also install a vent similar to what’s on pelican cases but that tend to leak gas

You’re going to have to angle the can. Personally those military metal cans are horrible I prefer the sceptre unfortunately you guys can’t get them in the US because they’re not carb compliant or whatever that bullshit is.

There is not a trip that I do when I’m down in the US where I haven’t been offered to buy my Jerry cans Especially considering mine are red sceptre military cans.

I use wavian nato jerry cans and they've worked very well (similar to what you have but they have a different cap). Only time I had an issue was when I filled the can too full and some squirted out when I opened the can because the sides moved from the pressure difference. Once I started not filling them quite so full (I usually make sure I have right at 5 gallons in them and no more) I havent had any issues.

I also switched to the flexi-nozzle instead of the POS carb compliant one

You just made me a believer. The Rotopax are very pricey buy comparison and-from what I have read, tend to swell as well.

I don't think filling them up more is going to help much.

The gas is cooler right out if the pump. Sitting in the can in sun causes the fuel to expand. Might make the problem worse.

From what I’ve seen, you need to vent the Rotopax regularly.

With the wavian cans, I’ve never once vented them in days from 0 to 12,000 feet or vise versa. Well worth the cost in my opinion. I toss them in the truck and don’t worry about it. You also don’t have to worry about the cap coming loose or falling off with these.
