On the way there, just Indianapolis, St Louis, and Denver.

On my way back, id like to make it to Salt Lake City and Moab (top of the world). Not much else planned, but I should start to make a list

After picking up the camper we camped at hyalite reservoir. It’s less than an hour from gfc and it’s really nice. From there we drove up to glacier national park and camped there for a night. Then drove back down to Bozeman and took 191 down to west Yellowstone. We camped somewhere along the way, there are a few remote campgrounds on 191. Then we drove through Yellowstone and camped at a campground on the lake. Then drove down to Jackson hole and camped on this hill overlooking the Tetons. We then went to see devils tower and camped at the koa. Then drove to South Dakota, drove through bad lands national park, then tried to see Custer state park/black hills/mt Rushmore. We made it through “bear country” drive through safari type thing and then it started pouring so we just started driving home.

I’d suggest skipping glacier because it’s so far in the wrong direction. Otherwise follow what we did and then head down to salt lake from Jackson WY. If South Dakota is on your way home, check out the black hills/ Custer state park/ needles highway.

I’ve known I had a rust issue for a little while. Plan was to power wash the frame, grind where needed, use evapo rust and rust reforming paint, and then spray wool wax on it.

Today I found out there will be a few more steps involved..

    438A454A-FC68-4839-8C7C-07FA0142E814.jpg 0CF1D623-8712-485D-B684-69751A657810.jpg 3CBA5C9C-E497-4BE1-946D-8E78C2F41F67.jpg E29608D6-24B6-4437-AB6D-2EFBA4116F08.jpg

I don’t think it’s worth trying to put the truck back to stock and seeing if Toyota will replace the frame (even though that would be the best option for the long run). So I started trying to cut out as much rust as I can, and on Monday I’ll go to fazzios and pick up some steel plate to work on patching the frame.

I have a camping trip scheduled in June, so I have 2 weeks to get this done.

I didn’t have to put mine back to stock to have the frame replaced. Why would you have to?

I could be wrong, but I thought I remembered everyone having to put their trucks back to stock to get the frames replaced. I believe I remember namyo did anyway.

I figured at the bare minimum I’d need to pull the go fast camper, bed system, skids, sliders, bumpers, and swap back to the oem gas tank. I don’t have the time or the desire to do that. Or the room to store everything.

I rolled into the dealership shop as-is. Did the CMC in the parking lot with an angle grinder when I went to pick it up.

lol sounds like an awesome dealership. After my lemon law case I have very little faith with my local dealerships.

How was your truck set up at the time? Arb air lines? Aftermarket fuel tank?

They wouldn’t be able to move my truck without doing a cmc first.

Everything but the LRA tank was on it at the time of the frame swap. Dual cases & all.

i know you feel you are too far in the rabbit hole but it would be nice to have a fresh frame. I de modded a bunch but mostly for redoing paint or saving the stuff I needed to weld back onto the new frame. I love having a fresh frame lol

I appreciate the feedback from both of you guys.
I think I’m going to patch the worst of it so I can feel safe driving it, and make an appointment to bring it to Toyota.

I had to take everything aftermarket off. Only left the UCAs, Prinsu, and snorkel on there. It was naked. :(

    Yep.
    x4

Get it in for an inspection before you do anything, they could react negatively with patches on the frame. If they clear you, I'm willing to bet they won't let you drive the truck off the lot. Free loner for the repair period. Def try for the new frame, it will be worth it!

Check your date of first use on toyota owners - your deadline is sometime this year and could be sooner than later.

    Keep us posted man!

x3... Also I was able to drive my truck off the lot after inspection after signing something saying I am aware of the safety risks doing so. It let me cut all my welded shit off so it could look like this weird abomination. Not something I was required to do mind you, but I didn't want to lose my sliders and front crossmember that @6 gearT444E and I made like literally weeks before finding the hole.

So.. my brother in law talked to the service manager and the tech that does the frame swaps at his dealership (liberty Toyota in Burlington).

They’re going to inspect his frame on Monday and print out a form for him to give me. Then I can take pictures of the frame, holding the paperwork in the picture. Then they will submit those pictures to corporate.

They said don’t drive the truck, and don’t weld or cut anything.

Hopefully they get approval to replace the frame, and hopefully they won’t care if I weld in some reinforcements so I can use the truck for a camping trip 3 weeks from now.

Here are the pictures after I started cutting out the rust so I could fix it myself.

The last one is where I realized this was more than I wanted to deal with.

Hopefully they will take care of you, Liberty are good people. I get all my parts there, and they fixed my issues with the Corolla after jersey city toyota fucked me over.

So I got the approval for the frame replacement. The tech that will be doing the work was giving my brother in law a hard time about his aftermarket bumpers, skids, sliders and said he’ll charge for the labor of removing anything aftermarket.

so I’ll be stripping my truck down :(

I’ll weld in some frame reinforcements so I can continue using the truck while I wait for the frame to come in. Supposedly it’s a 6 week lead time.
