Figured i would toss up a pic of the DSM UCAs. I've gotta say these are some awesome ucas, I honesty wasn't crazy about them when i first saw them online because of the boxed sytle. I ended up winning this set from DSM in a facebook contest and once i got these in my hands i can honestly say i just fell in love with the style. They just look so beefy and badass. If i had not won these, after seeming them in person they would have been my first choise by a longshot. Installation was a complete breeze, which i did not expect. The only difficult part was the OEM bolt on the passengers side which was a little hard to get out and in but all in all wasn't very bad. Fitment was great, ride is great, and best of all my alignment is perfectly in spec. Can't say enought good things about DSM. Thanks again guys!

Were those UCAs a necessary purchase for the tires, wheels, coilovers and lift to all work properly?

They do look really good BTW.

Sorry, bit of noob question. I'm only starting out in lifted trucks (I come from sports cars.)

Yeah UCAs are needed to correct your alignment on anything above a 2" lift i believe. I had my truck lifted at 3" for about a year on the stock tires and the stock UCAs and the camber was a little off (wasn't in spec) but my tires wore evenly with about 30kmi on them.

Cool. Good to know. I'm planning on lifting mine only with a leveling kit for know, only 2" probably. Eventually I might do more. But I think 2" will hold me over for at least a year.

The only thing... I'm planning on doing 17" and even before I saw this thread I had decided on Trail Grapplers. But the size I want is 285/70/17 - According to Nitto's sizing chart, it puts that tire at the same diameter as your 285/65/18, so I'm wondering is a 2" or 2.5" leveling kit will be enough to clear those tires.

I could go 265/70/17 for slightly less diameter, but I really wanted 17x9" wheels. The 265 Nittos are rated up to 8.5 wide wheels"

2" might be a little stretch, i've got 3.5" in the front and about 3.5-4" in the rear. 33" tires are pretty tight fit. I had to trim the plastic inside the fenders and will have to do what we call the "cab mount chop" where i will cut a piece out of my frame and weld in a sheet of steel to get more clearance for my tires when the wheel is at full lock. Right now when the wheel is at full lock the tires rub the frame.

Hmmm. I don't mind trimming plastic. But the frame chop scares me a little. o_O

it's really not very bad, it's easy to do and also pretty necessary with this size tires

Right now my only plans are a custom made spare tire carrier for the bed and a rear off road bumper. Possibly leather and heated seats

Got the cb antenna wired up and ran last night. Fab'd up a little bracked out of some scrap steel and used some fastenall T-nuts (Part #3163956) to mount it to the rail. Wrapped the wire in loom and ran it under the truck and up under the drivers seat (which was a bit tricky, but not too bad with an extra set of hands). Had to take off my tonneau cover to get the wire under the front of it as well. It was a little bit of work and took a little patience but wasn't very hard at any stage. Now i just need to wire up my cobra 75 inside the cab and i'm good to go. Saving that project for friday since i have the day off.
