    Hey all,
Not my first post here, but first time as a 3rd gen owner. I traded in my first gen along with a forester to acquire a TRD Sport double cab with a long bed. First thing, I already miss the brightness of my Foresters headlights with projector lenses.

What is the best/safest and cheapest options for bulb repalcements? Does the 3rd gen require Can Bus style bulbs?

I will be looking to swap out the reverse lights as well.

    Thank you all in advance!

Thank you guys, this is great info. Crazy to think that LED may not be the way to go. What is the best option that you all have gone with? HID or Xenon?

Philips H9 halogen bulbs or buy a pair of OEM LED headlight assemblies to swap in.

LED is not the way to go because the housing is not designed for it. Go with the H9's recommended in the previously mentioned thread.

Get H9s but get these as well.

    https://www.amazon.com/iJDMTOY-Exte...=1678983053&sprefix=h9+adapter,aps,100&sr=8-8

Modify this to take the H9 and go into the H11 off the tacoma. This way, if one burns out, you can stop anywhere and get a set of H9s and not have to worry about modification of them to get them to fit on short notice. This is how I did mine - get the pigtail to be the adapter, now I can swing by any store and get an H9 and drop it in.

You don't need those or modify H9 lamps. Just pop/pull the green adapter out of factory plug. It pulls right out. Then it plugs right into H9.

The H9 mod can be done by pulling out the plastic insert in the bulb socket too. Works well! Leds won’t work well in the halogen housings due to focus issues, but there is (or was?) a pair of OEM 2017 led lights in the So Cal San Diego garage sale for $200

When you look in the end of the wiring harness plug for the H11/Low beam bulb, you will see the outer plug material is black, but there is a bright green insert. Grab it securely with a pair of fone needle nose pliers and pull it straight out. It's not glued, jist a press fit, iirc.
