We both drive around with the kids in the back of our vehicles, and I hope that something like this NEVER happens again to either of us, especially not in her small car. If it had been her at that light instead of me her car would have been torn up a LOT worse than mine and I don't want to think about how the kids would have been. Luckily this ladys car went under my truck for the most part, my wifes car would have taken the whole impact.

I'm not sure what you're saying or implying. My wife has a small Nissan, we plan to get her into a new car at some point but we can't do it now. We have what we have.

What was your mistake? Grabbing the steering wheel and laying down on the brake? I don't know if I pressed the brake hard, I just remember grabbing the steering wheel. I'm guessing that by grabbing the wheel it sprained my wrist a bit when she hit me, that hand was numb afterwards. When stuff like that happens so fast I guess it's just a natural reaction to brace yourself. If I could have planned it I don't think I'd grab the wheel. But damn, you bent the steering wheel?? Were your wrists or hands hurting pretty bad afterwards?

My back is hurting too, lower back. I'm generally sore all over but when I walk and take a step sometimes I get shooting pains in my lower back. I'm fine when I'm sitting down though. And I work for FedEx and do a LOT of walking which is what scares me.

some of this, a little of that
just make sure you mention all of your aches and pains to the doc, particularly if you work for FedEx, that is a lot of walking and stooping.

First off, glad you're ok...sorry about your pick-up.
Second, forget the damn chiropractor. You need to see your regular family physician and get a referral for an Orthopedist or Neurologist that will send you for x-rays. A set of x-rays will show any gross anatomical damage and will set you up for a series of MRI's that will show neurological (spinal cord) and/or muscular damage.
Chiropractic care is considered complementary or secondary and you need a Primary care provider to look you over.
Just my 2 cents as a Radiologic Tech.
    Good luck!

there should be no reason that you shouldnt get everything you had back. like you said...sue if you dont.

he has no reason to have this thread dissapeared. if anything it would help him i would think. so far he has posted twise that he has aches and pains with a documented time and date.

OP- trucks are replaceable your not. truck sacrifced itself for you. your alright, you still got your health for the most part and in the end thats all that matters

The roof racks will be going on my new truck, assuming it's totaled. It better be totaled dammit.

For the guys who have had their trucks totaled out, can you take parts off of it? Like the wheels, rear view cam, compass/temperature console, etc..? I don't see how any of that stuff belongs to me to take off once the insurance company has paid the bank. I didn't pay the truck off so it's not mine yet, or at least that's my thinking.

But if I can take stuff off and sell it then I'm all for it, I just don't want to do anything that will come back to bite me.

I totalled a car about 30 years ago - so things may have changed.

But my adjuster let me pull my aftermarket stuff only.

Talk to the adjuster. Also, the towing yard probably has some pretty strict rules and i'm guessing THEY won't let you go in there and start pulling parts.

From what i know, if you pull any parts off, they deduct that price from what they pay you, oem full price. The wrecker that buys the totalled vehicle know what the parts are worth and they don't like buying cars with pieces missing.
On a side note, how the hell did the corolla hit the top portion of the tailgate?
Also, the fact the your tow-hitch took most of the beating means your back took the rest.

Totaled - hope you have gap insurance or a great insurance co if you're only a few months into a finance. The insurance co will probably try to reimburse you for a used truck (sticker - 20%), even though it's basically new. Lots of times you'll have gap insurance through your loan company or your car insurance co and not know it, so be sure to check with both companies.

It will be interesting to follow this issue and see how it turns out. The worse wrecks are new car wrecks. I hope he doesn't have to file against his own insurance because she is only carrying $25K in property damage.

After seeing the rear end it has to be totaled. Try and keep your neck straight, whiplash is a bitch after rear end collisions. This could be the cause of your other pains.
