If one is fated to be inside a vehicle while it's being totalled, the 2nd Generation Tacoma seems like a good choice. (Likely more than worth any insurance awkwardness.)

I shudder to think of what might have happened with my last truck - that thing didn't have headrests!

We have gap insurance. We went back and forth on it when we were buying the truck. I've never been in a wreck so I figured that was good enough reason not to get it. My wife (the smarter one) strong armed me into getting it, damn I love that woman!

Glad you're ok, get to the Dr. totaling a Tacoma sucks. But hopefully you'll get a new truck. If she has insurance you should be fine... Unfortunately I know what it's like to have two totaled... :(

I made it to my doctor, he prescribed pain killers and anti-inflammatorys. The general pain is subsiding but my back kills me when I try to bend over and sometimes when I'm walking. My lawyer is sending me to their doctor to get xrays and an MRI and to a chiropractor as well, I go tomorrow morning.

SIR.......YOU CAN SUE THE SHIT OUT OF HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!AND....the bar (if she came from one) also! It happened to my buddy. This drunkard bitch was drinking at 3 different bars and they didn't cut her off, his attorney nailed all of those bars asses for letting her keep drinking and letting her drive off.

First thing – glad to hear nobody was critically injured.

A few years back, my wife and I were in a rental Mustang (heading back to the airport to fly home) in Mesa AZ at a stoplight and were rear ended by oddly enough, a Tacoma, (the guy was going to deliver a newspaper he missed and failed to see us or the red stoplight).

I yelled “we’re going to get hit” and latched onto the steering wheel for all it was worth – bad move, my elbows and shoulders hurt for a week from being stretched. Although nothing started to hurt until about three hours later on the airplane. My back seized up by the next day, saw a chiropractor for about six months.

My wife, who just said “huh” when I yelled didn’t brace for the hit and came out unscathed.

If you watch pro racers, when they brace for a hit, they will fold their arms across their chest and not hold onto the wheel.

Hard to think about when you see a vehicle closing at 45 mph, you tend to grab hold and ride it out.

Good luck with everything. Hope your lawyer does better for you than mine did for me, As soon as I got the third call in two weeks from the insured’s insurance rep saying something like “guess you’ll only need one or two treatments, we should be able to wrap this settlement up quickly”, I saw a lawyer.

They paid for the rental, my MD and Chiropractor bills and I ended up with something like $3500 in my pocket (enough to pay for the vacation), but they wouldn’t pay the storage fees from the towing company. I had to cover that $225 myself.

Join the club, my friend. I was down in LA last Christmas, stopped at a red light. A guy in a small nissan plowed into the back me(25 to 35MPH). I never saw him coming, and he never saw me stopped at the light. We were lucky there were no injury's. He had been drinking, and said he was texting on his cell phone. He was in the country illegally from Peru, and thus had no drivers license. His car was insured through is aunt. His car was totalled, and mine was repaired.
I was as pissed as you to be hit by a drunk driver, and a guy that had no reason to be driving in the first place.

    Hope you are OK.

Then get involved with your county politician that represents you. You can be pissed all you want to but until the laws are changed the same stupid stuff continues.

I am truly sorry that you were rear ended. You are very lucky to be alive,

I would say it's totalled. I had a hit that bent the rear axle slightly forward. Total repair on that one was about $8K (Bumper, left rear fender, axle and frame work). I had no damage to the front or the right side of the vehicle.

For the next time, check with your insurance company before buying gap insurance. My insurance company (Allstate) added gap insurance for much less than the dealer charged. It was about $30 a year (some insurance companies offer it free).
