Just got my coil overs today from freedom off-road

I'm looking at them on Amazon for $399 for the coilovers and sway bar end links.

I'm just trying to find out the spring rate and I'm good. My tires are starting to rub since the addition of the winch so I'm hoping that I can crank these a tad (1.5") or so to stop the rubbing.

 

So far they seem ok, I actually lost 1" of lift from the stock Bilsteins before I cranked them up a tad.

Question? This pic is of the passenger side and the shock is centered in the spring, the drivers side it's not. It's not rubbing on the spring, but it is off center. Could this be due to having the drivers side cranked a bit more than the pass side? When originally adjusting them I measured the same amount of threads showing , but the pass side was an 1" higher so I let some off to even up the sides. The drivers side has 1 and a 1/4" of threads to 1" of threads on the pass side.

 

what type of uca's do you have?

 

Ok I'm quickly losing faith in these Freedom Off-Road coilovers. The left pic is the right side and the right pic is the drivers side. With them set like this the right side of the truck is slightly higher than the drivers side, so it seems I would need to lower the pass side even more. So the big problem now is I'm having alignment issues which I didn't have until installing these. Something about an SAI measurement on the alignment machine? 8.6 on the drivers side and 10.3 on the pass side so now the caster on the right is off by 2 degrees? Can someone explain this?

 

Not sure about the alignment....though caster and toe do change as the suspension moves up and down. So it stands to reason that if the suspension is lifted or lowered there would need to be an adjustment.

The difference in preloaded....maybe from the infamous "Taco lean"?

I get that, but they are now unable to get it in spec by looking at the alignment sheet.

 

Not sure how the damper and coil itself could cause that

 

The only explanation the tech could give me as the vehicle wasn't in a wreck was the difference in the spring adjustments as the cause of my issues.

 

I'm hoping to get some answers here, I'm not sure what to do exactly.

 

But don't folks with adjustable COs tweak one side to compensate for theTaco lean pretty frequently?

I think either the alignment tech is wrong or something other than the new dampers is going on

 

The alignment tech was at a loss himself only suggesting this was the issue. They told me it may also be the springs haven't settled down yet and to ride it for 500 to 1000 miles and bring it back and they'll check it again and see if it changes. The last time it was aligned was when I had the new UCA installed and that was in Oct and it aligned perfectly. The only thing that has changed from then till now is the new springs and adjustment. No accident or curb impact. I've been dealing with these guys for years and is a very busy and reputable shop.

 

Don't know. Still at a loss as to how the COs themselves could cause this. Like I said, perhaps the tech is wrong.

You could take it to another shop and see what they say. But do not mention what the 1st guy said and see what they come up with. I've seen pretty big swings in numbers between 2 different shops on the same vehicle

 

Yea I just don't know of any other shops trustworthy enough.
