Just installed new mirror

Just finished installing a new rear view mirror with compass and temperature. It's a CIPA 34600 auto dimming. Price was right ($123 at

Hardest part was running the temperature sensor wire through the firewall.

Finally have outside temperature. This makes a great truck "perfect" .

This is the first mod I will be doing to my 2015, I hate that Toyota took away Outside Temp and Compass.

 

I used an add-a-fuse in the block in the cab. Tapped off the AC fuse. Ran both sets of wires up the pillar (which was very easy to remove). Remove the driver sun visor and it's real easy to pull down the headliner just enough to run the wires to the mirror.

 

Thank you. I've wanted outside temp for a while ... just keep telling myself I can do without it, 5 yrs now ... $128 is tempting.

 

One more question, did you have to use their "replacement wedge button," or does it fit on the existing mirror "button."

 

Looks like a nice mirror,,but looks to be low(?) kinda in the drivers view..

 

I was in the same boat as everyone. This mirror is actually made by Donnelly. Quality is very good, installation directions are excellent. At $128 it is a very good buy.

 

It's the angle I took the picture. Otherwise I was getting the phone in the mirror. The mounting arm is adjustable so you can actually put the mirror up to the overhead console. I have mine set higher than the stock mirror.

That's why I was asking about the "button". Does it mount on the normal mirror mount?

 

Yes. . It mounts directly to the wedge on the windshield.

Installation tip for going through the firewall :

I pushed a Phillips head screwdriver through the main boot, top left, from the engine compartment. Then from the cab side, I pushed a stiff plastic straw over the screwdriver (using it as a guide), lubricated with Windex, until it showed on the engine side. Remove the screwdriver and slip the temperature sensor wire through the straw. When through , pull the straw out from the cab side. The temperature sensor wires have pins on them that you have to be careful not to damage. They are inserted into the mirror plug.

 

Good tip ... I've routed wiring for lights already, so I know the route, but I'll use the straw to protect the pins.

No homelink. I don't wear sunglasses so I keep the opener in the overhead console.
