Well... Just got informed today that I will be laid off Friday. Whoopie. Add that to getting a speeding ticket today and I had one hell of a "great" day. Anyhow... anyone in the Bay Area know of anyone hiring graphic designers?

    Lots.
I'm pretty sure bob hates the bay area. Or at least the commute.

Sorry to hear about the job. Best of luck.

This is my 2nd time being laid off and my 6th job in 7 years. I'm sort of used to constantly being in a state of instability... which is why I'm a cheap bastard and rarely buy anything. I'm sort of thinking perhaps now might be a time to consider seeking jobs outside of California.

Sucks out there. At least you got some notice. All I got this morning was a we're going to have to let you go effective tomorrow. Needless to say I just left and am using a vacation day for tomorrow. And that's rough after 9 years. At least I have some experience now which should help since jobs usually want 2-5 years experience it was hard getting into the accounting/finance field right out of college.

Wow guys. Sorry to hear everyone's troubles. Hopefully you guys will be able to find work soon (unless you're looking into taking a vacation for a little while, that's what I'd be doing). Good luck.

Yea that's pretty much how they always roll. Only person that got an advanced notification was our HR guy when we got rid of him several months ago. Being in accounting obviously I see where expenses go it's annoying knowing there is money senselessly wasted on stuff that could be cut back rather than getting rid of people. Just how it goes though, why cut off from the top when you can get rid of people on the bottom.

Welcome to the club! Even though it is the lamest club in the world... that sucks man. Yeah, I just started working again part time for a fraction of what I was making before, it blows. I to want to leave CA, but I dont think it's much better out there.

Anyone know of any Law enforcement agencies outside CA that are hiring??? (Recruits)

    Terrific.

Unfortunately, the brilliance of our 'leader's' in reducing us to a service based economy is coming to roost, regardless of how much money they throw at it.

    Decades in the making...

It seems like the closer you are to sensitive company info (accounting and IT) the less notice they give you. I've seen guys escorted out with zero notice all because they could potentially do some serious damage to the company's infrastructure if they had a few days notice.

It sucks and it's hard not to take it personally. I got laid off once after 6 months at a job that I moved across the country for on my own dime.

You are mistaken... our leader did nothing to "reduce" us to a service based economy... WE DID! People (as a whole, in general) chose to pick up jobs in service and moved away from manufacturing. No one "leader" mandated it. Thats the natural progression of an economy, More education = less direct manufacturing jobs.

Not everyone wants to build things... plus all those manufacturing employees get laid off all the time, look at Boeing, GM, Ford, etc. How many times have those guys been laid off in the past 2 years? Besides if there isn't someone to sell something, than there is no need for someone to build it.

It doesn't matter the industry, the job market is tight, the good thing is that unemployment is a trailing indicator when it come to economic indicators while the stock market is a leading indicator... so if everything goes as it has for the last 50 years unemployment should start dropping with the next year or so...

Hang in there... BTW, Military is always hiring :)
