2017 Tacoma TRD Sport K&N Black Hawk Series Intake System: Here are a few pics and videos. Happy to answer any questions regarding install that you guys may have. This specific filter needs no oil. Im doing a black out build so thats the other reason I chose this one. Truck sounds and runs great and only gets loud if you want it to. Above 3-4000 RPM it is very loud and swallows small animals see videos below. Exhaust is stock.IMG_2655.jpg IMG_2656.jpg IMG_2657.jpg

I put my headphones on for the video and took my wallet out and am now, like so many times before, left with one empty hand and disappointment.

Ooh that does sound purdy, may have to look into it. I've never really considered upgrading the intake on my truck, just my cars.

Didn't someone just post a thread about KnN intakes tripping the check engine light on new tacos?

Reading some reviews on their site and not seeing anything. Seeing a few people report increased fuel economy and some folks reporting a slight decrease, so thats kind of inconclusive. I haven't fiddled with my truck intake but on my last car some intakes wouldn't work with the O2 sensor, which would trip the engine light.

Rider interesting you mention that! I originally bought the K&N Series 63 and had nothing but problems with check engine lights. Two trips to Toyota with no results. Finally I got K&N involved and they sent me this Series 71 free of charge. I will say Troy in their Engineering Dept is excellent and they do have amazing customer service. Didn't make me pay shipping and were very helpful in troubleshooting. This intake needs no oil and slightly different design. I have had no problems after the initial few drives. I can keep you guys up to date after some more highway driving though! I def would not recommend the 63 after using it for a month.

I think the oil is the issue. Any of that crap on the O2 sensor will throw you a CEL.

Almost 40 million people in California, and about 1/4 of tacomas monthly sales are made in California alone, but k&n still won't get their intakes a carb exemption

All good bro... just welcoming you to TW! Bring sense of humor or butt hurt.

Yeah that sounds pretty good. I have the TRD intake and a magnaflow exhaust .... I dont drive to red line rpms - mpg's suffer a tad... but yeah that's very nice.

There's an intake rubber part that's called PTR03-35160-AE (Intake Flow Accelerator/Horn), it fits in that hole. It has a specific shape that will and should enhance air flow into the filter chamber. I think it's the money part for the TRD intake. You can purchase that separately and see what it does for you. It's # 8 in the diagram fits in that hole in the fender:

So... Is the opening for Air coming through the fender larger with this intake? If not, you will not see much or any gain with your initial entry bottlenecking the system

Well if you look at the tube design and specifically the shape of the tube going from the filter to the throttle body.. very very slight bends... that's the way to increase or improve air flow right there. I like that design. To help with the cutout which is where all the air will come from in the fender get the accelerator part I posted a link to ... done and problem solved!

Not bad tq gain at 3.5k rpm.. Also the power doesn't drop off. Reminds me of my HC 02 Ls1 Camaro..Miss that car...Sold it before I divorced my "Starter Wife".

Does the part only work on the TRD cold air intake system? Or will it work on the stock air box? Seems like a pretty cool/cheap modification I'd like to look into. Thanks!
