How messed up was your MAF? Just wondering if it was totally wrecked or if it just needed a good cleaning. You can remove them and spray them down with.....I can`t remember. My buddy worked as a tech for toyota and he told me what to use if it happens, I will ask him again. I hav`nt had to do it yet.

I used a K&N drop in on my POS Jimmy. I did end up with a MAF issue, they just need a careful cleaning and good to go again. So far I have no problems with the cone filter on my toyota. Same driving conditions essentially, of course, the toyota can go places where the jimmy will never see, but really as far as air quality, dust, and debris, Same issues for filters, this one just works better.

I wiped it up with a paper towel and it was pinkish. Going to go to autozone tomorrow and get something to spray the maf with. I calculate my mpg using data from the odometer, my gps unit, and the scangauge.

I have no problems with my K&N. Electrical parts cleaner works on the MAF as well.

I understand that. I had oil from the airbox all the way to the head. Yes, I had some from the PCV. It was black, and very sticky. The other, was rather fresh, and dirty. When I oiled my K & N, I would let it sit for a couple of months ( I had 2) on a stack of paper towels so they could suck up the excess oil. Not only that, but they dont filter well for what I do with my truck.

^Well that's really the most important thing, filtering efficiency. K&N consistently tests among the lowest. It tests among the highest in air flow, though. Coincidence?

After reading this tread I kinda regret dishing out 300$ last week on a CAI kit (K&N) :( plus I can't say that I see a real difference with it power wise anyways not as much as I seen when changing the cast iron logs for headers.

Still not my worst buy tho, that one has to go to the air razor on e-bay:
    http://cgi.ebay.ca/INTAKE-GAS-SAVER...ryZ42604QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

still can't beleive I bought that thing... lolll I feel stupid everytime I look at it. could be good at toilet bowl exhaust for pre-mashing or turbo flush waste?

^If you're uncomfortable with the filter, swap in a different brand. AEM, AFE, and Amsoil all make dry cone filters.

I was going to suggest something similar. I've tried some oiled air filters in the past. One even recommended in the installation instructions to leave it sitting on a newspaper overnight before installing.

Now that I think about it, I has another worthless product that said to let it sit on some newspapers before using...California Duster anyone?
