So could be a dumb question about 4x4 but better knowledgeable than dumb. As we are all aware we just had ice and snow. My neighborhood doesn't treat the streets so they are icey until they melt. Is it okay tooling to and from work in 4 HI for the added traction? Is it fine pulling in and out of parking lots / spots in 4 HI or should we be swapping to 2 wd?

If it’s slick it’s fine. If it’s not slick and you turn you’ll feel the driveline bind up. Just depends how bad the conditions are.

You’ll be okay. As long as you’re not constantly doing it on pavement.

Keep an eye out around the windows. I don't know why we have little rust spots around the windows, but they're the only rusty spots on the truck.
Super white Corollas have a paint recall from the same year group as our truck, so I think it might be a paint thing, but we don't have a recall, so I'm not too sure what we should do to address it. Worth keeping an eye on though I guess; doubt it'd be an issue for you though. Prob just wash after periods of heavy salting and you should be good to go.

Like @Shellshock said, you'll know if you don't need it when you start to turn the wheel and it binds. Make sure you engage it every now and again in warmer months to keep things oiled up too. You'd want to do that say, if you have a long-ish straight stretch of road that's around neighborhood speed to about 40mph would be ideal for engaging it just to make sure it's working; but you'll want to disengage before you do any turning of course. People usually try to do this once a month or so.

Just these really tiny ass spots, almost kinda what rock chips in a hood would look like, but much smaller and seems to be coming from the inside out, inside the curvature of the door where it's about to transition into the window. Not along any creases but near them. It's kinda odd. If Josh gets off at the same time as you tonight you should ask him to show you. It's on both sides. Bugs me every time I get into the truck lol.

Edit: Here's a good example; looks just like this dude's issue: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/rust-coming-through-white-paint-around-windows.222810/

Sounds like my full size 45 ACP Springfield 1911. So heavy, but fires so well.

What trim do you have? Most likely you have the AutoLSD which engages the drum brake on the free spinning wheel. If you run all the time in 4hi you'll wear out the drums and potentially increase wear in the rear diff. Dry as @Shellshock said, dry pavement = 2hi, anything slick = 4hi. I run 4 hi on slick stretches of straight highway if its slick, but beyond that I'll swap back into 2hi.

Psshh Rotopax? We run jerry cans around these parts. I also use this for long trips: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Ozark-Tr...MIqZiY7LSC5wIVBK7ICh28zQf-EAQYAiABEgI-YvD_BwE

1911 are awesome. My experiences have taught me a 1911 must be kept clean and regularly oiled, otherwise wise they turn into a single shot.

I have the 17 DC OR with crawl and all that jazz. I just haven't really gotten a clear answer but "yeah" that works. When roads were like this weekend I just ran 4HI to keep from slipping, and then jumped back to 2wd. My neighborhood roads as mentioned when the weather comes in stay iced, so I just tool around in 4HI then if I get to a stop light or sign before highway go back to 2WD if the road conditions allow.

My Dad, even though he's The Chronic Pain™ always parked in the back of every. single. parking lot. Even at our apartment complex as a kid, where we had a spot right next to our door, nah, back of the parking lot. Idk why, it's not like he's one to care about someone giving him a door ding or anything.

So I have a similar habit, I like to park a couple aisles to the side, which allows me to be in the front, but not have to go up and down aisles looking for a spot. If shit is empty though, I'll take it, especially if I can pull on through

I'm on a computer for hours, work and home. I'll take all the exercise I can get. Plus i don't have to waste time looking for a spot.
