    Hey all,

Recently picked up a Pelican Catch 120 fishing kayak and having difficulty finding a stable transport solution.

I just got back from a 700+ mile road trip in which I had it mounted to my Uptop Overland Bravo rack via Yakima J hooks
    [IMG]

The wind noise and vibration damn near drove me crazy by hour 5. ON the way home, Highway 46 for all my Central Cal folks, the insane 40 mph cross wind had loosened the J-hooks grip on my cross bar the kayak was barely hanging on.

I have since returned the hooks as I want to have total confidence in my system as I have a BAJA road trip planned for August.

I was looking at something like this but would bolt into the existing channel of the rack
    [IMG]
Do any have yall have any experience with a mount that will bolt onto my rack's cross bars instead of the clamp method of the j-hooks?

    Thanks!

Ah ok, yeah sorry…I just use the Malone J hooks and those have worked for me with BillieBars. Just sold my BillieBars and switching to Yakima racks shortly though so hopefully the J hooks will still work
    :fingerscrossed:
Hope you find an answer soon!

Why not just put the kayak flat or upside down and strap it directly to the cross bars of your roof rack? Cut some lengths of pool noodles for cushioning between the kayak and the rack. More aerodynamic, less problem with crosswinds, and no messing with cradles or clamps. Run a strap from the bow to the front of the truck, too.

    back to bone stock.
for a long trip. flip it upside down and positively strap it down directly to the cross bars. use those cheap bar cushions. EDIT. see post above.

you would slip thru the atmosphere smoother. quieter.

I use the Yakima “Jay Low” folding mounts. They mount tight to my ARE bars and haven’t loosened up any since I put them on there. The vibration you were hearing was probably coming from your straps. I’ve had to pull over before and reposition the straps because of the noise/vibration.

must it be on top? a bed extender from harbor freight and a few straps keeps my 1-3 kayaks (2 sit on top tandems, 1 hobie outback) rock solid in the bed for short trips, no reason why a multi hour trip would be any different.
