If I didn’t put the window poles for that side on I could, but I usually just pulled the bikes off since it takes just a minute or so

Anybody build a freestanding hoist to remove their RTT/rack?

@Papadave418 Great thread. Lots of great build ideas and inspirations.
I'm curious if you are running any bed stiffeners? I'm wondering if a bed stiffener and installing a long bed rack on my DCSB Tacoma will interfere with each other as they may share the same mounting area at the rear.

Personally I have not found a need for bed stiffeners. The rack locked into place creates a boxed in frame that should be stronger than a L bracket could ever be. As my rack goes on and off I’ve never noticed any issues with my bed sides bowing out.

As to your question of interference, with the @KB Voodoo tonneau bracket I had to add about 1/4” of washers behind it as I screwed it into the rear off the bed so that the bracket would remain vertical when tightened down. I have not looked at stiffeners but perhaps given its thickness (and if they share the same mounting bolt) they might play nice together

Yup, looking at photos of the stiffeners and where you are attaching the tonneau brackets, I think they might play well. I appreciate your reply!

    Well... fuu....uudge.
Putting a long bed Max Modular rack on a DCSB with a Diamondback HD bed cover. The tiedown handles are in the way.

Those are $2 plastic tie downs. Remove them and plug the holes, or you may be able to get a lower profile version online somewhere.

I moved mine, I figured the rack was more essential than the location of my cleats. I found my old photos D0BB4529-9D64-4706-AE49-72A6DCF7EBA8.jpg9BEC2E68-5F25-4A91-BEC2-9DA76920B7D2.jpg

Yup, I just removed them and replaced the bolts/washers and added a little silicon to keep things sealed. Otherwise, the installation was pretty drama-free.

I have Total Chaos bed stiffeners and attached the rear tonneau brackets to the top bolt against the stiffener. Works okay there with no spacers. I replaced the stock M6 25mm bolt with a longer M6 35mm. Wish I could use a bigger bolt but I can't move the bracket any more forward because the bed stiffener top mount would be in the way.

I didn’t reuse the M6 bolt as it’s pretty small, I drilled out the M6 and put a larger bolt and nut in to make it stronger. I had put in an M6 but that was longer as well and it snapped

Yep, I have one for my sideyard and I built electric hoist in my garage. Since you live near by. You can come by and I can show you my setup.

Glad that @KB Voodoo replied to your question about his rack systems because his is great. My rack goes on and off easily and quickly with a hoist, and my hard tonneau cover thing comes off in 5 minutes with a 9/16” socket so I can haul taller objects. Secure tonneaus like diamondbacks allow me to carry and store things of value in my bed, or haul on top of the cover with gear below. That’s how I use my truck as a truck.

Thanks I ended up building a pergola style hoist for my rack and kitchen drawer. So much nicer to quickly change up my truck

Nice setup. Like you have a roof to protect from the rain when you have to off load your truck. Off loading from a trip is already not fun but doing in the rain makes it worse. I went with a 1 ton gantry on wheels in my side yard and I reinforce my runners in my garage to hang an electric 440 lbs. hoist to store my RTT.

@Papadave418 Apologies if I missed it, but would you share your overall clearance height with the iKamper mounted?

Thank you sir, I love your set-up and your information will really help guide my build.

I'm not sure what you're confused about. All of our bed racks are here: https://www.max-modular.com/shop-max-modular

Our TACO Max racks are made specifically for the Tacoma. We make them in steel and aluminum. We offer 10", 14", 18", and 22" tall racks. We offer those in 46" and 58" lengths.

If you have any specific questions, let me know.

Accessories are towards the bottom of the page.

The supports cannot be removed. If you need to load tall cargo, simply remove the rack, it comes out by removing four bolts.

Rack weights are shown on our website. Load ratings are also shown on our website.
