It uses your factory fob, so it has the same range as that would have.

Range is ok on oem remotes, hence why I went with the Smart start so I could use my cell phone to start my truck

Just installed this today. It’s not particularly difficult at all just need to be semi-confident with your wiring skills. Things that I found that dont seem to be common:
-Those plastic t splices are retarded. Dont bother
-Toyota doesnt leave an awful lot of slack in the wires. Take your time and make sure you have the correct wire. Read the instructions, read them again, read them with your fingers on the wire, then read them when you connect.
-I used butt splices. Two wires in one side, one in the other. Worked brilliant.
-if you cant butt splice (not enough room, etc. ) strip, twist together and solder. Wrap tight in tape then zip tie so tape doesnt unravel.
    -Take your time.

Otherwise, great price, good 2-beer evening project.

Question for anyone that installed this:

I have tapped all the wires listed in the instructions, and the video, but I have a purple/yellow wire that I cannot find any reference to. What is up with this wire?

I just went through all my drawings and diagrams and I do not see any wires that are purple/yellow. You may want to contact kbvoodoo

I sent them an email, got a pretty quick reply with the answer.

The purple/yellow wire is not used, at least for 2018 smart key.

They need to update their instructions, 2018 use different CAN wires, and the only reference is on the second page in one of the images. Front page still says to use the OBD2 connector which is incorrect for 18+.

I ended up tapping the wrong wires and having to swap then when it would not program.

Glad you got it figured out. I have a '17 so there must be a slight difference between '17 and '18. Good to know.

    Yup, thank you!

I recommend updating instructions ASAP to clear up the purple/yellow wire and add some clarification for different years on the front page. I read through the packet several times but the red 2018 square wasn't quite enough to avoid mistake the first time around.

The instructions should be up to date. This is the first we've heard of an issue.

We have three more units in stock. When they're gone, we're pulling the plug on this project. Electronics is not what we want to focus on.
