Anyone else notice that values went up on KBB? Looks like value on the two configurations I checked a couple weeks ago, both Tacomas, have gone up almost a $1,000.00.

Hmm it may be because the sticky gas pedal thing has quieted down. Even though it may not have affected all vehicles it was bad for Toyota's name...

I would not pay attention to KBB. This book is a scam used by the dealers to rip you off. They don't buy cars at the auction with KBB, just rip you off on your trade using it. It is not recognized by any State on the East Coast as a reliable source for total loss settlements because it is not accurate. If you want the real value of your vehicle you need to use NADA. Some insurance companies use CCC, Autosource. The State of PA uses Autosouce and NADA averaged. MD uses NADA retail to value vehicles. The only discrepancy I ever see with NADA is Harley Davidson's in the Mid Atlantic area. They go higher in this area and we end up using comparables (averaged) to get an accurate value. If you want a simple way to figure out what your Tacoma is worth get on Autotrader.com and average 10 of them. Normally the prices there will bring 5-10% less than the average as the price there is the asking price. Example: 2007 Tacoma 4x4 with standard options and TRD, 40000 miles, 22425 Trade, 20450 Loan, 25950 retail. The same vehicle is 21945 Private party good condition in KBB. KBB good condition trade is 18825. Also, the majority of the major car dealers in this Country are members of the National Auto Dealers Asssociation, who lobbies for them in Congress as well as a lot of other benefits. (NADA)

Around here, it would be tough to sell anything for more than KBB unless you have something pretty desirable, like a Tacoma. KBB is a good indicator which way the market is going, even though it is a little slow to catch up. Looks like the trend of increasing used car values are continuing as more people are converting to buying used.

On KBB, my truck private party good today is $15,300.00. Two weeks ago it was $14,500.00.

    NADA today: rough trade = $16,075.00 average trade = $17,300.00 clean trade = $18,275.00 clean retail = $21,650.00.

I paid $13,588.00 at a Toyota dealership and it is spotless.

I agree with Bretsuaz that the used car market has gotten a lot stronger and the prices for used vehicles have increased. I disagree about around here it would be hard to get more than KBB... It takes patience and firmness with dealers that you will not discuss KBB with them and come armed with NADA printed off to show them. The KBB can't get more than that is the kool-aid that they want you to drink and buy into their KBB rip off trade scheme. I walked out of two dealers and did get NADA for a RAV4 from the third dealer without the bait and switch game of raising the price of the Tacoma. We agreed on the Tacoma price and then discussed possibly trading if the price was acceptable.

Do you think Toyota should send BP a gift basket?
