This isn’t the first thread to pop up with the rust issue. All I can say is, while I completely understand the frustration, if he took back everyone’s products in good will he’d be stuck between a rock and a hard place. Not justifying anything, just sayin.

That being said I figured by now he’d be pulling a cya and only offering things raw, or the existing aluminum products he has.

It rusted in 3 months. The pic is the 4th month. He should take back any of his products that are failing. Any and all. That’s the right thing to do for a truly successful business and life.

I’ve never owned a product from them but I have seen a lot on buddies trucks and they all rust like this. They look cool and maybe made from good material but when it comes to the paint and coat of the product they suck. I personally wouldn’t ever own a product from them especially ready his response to your concern of their product.

Alright, I'm out! So close to purchasing everything, plenty of other alternatives that haven't had this issue (within months of purchase). Thanks for helping me dodge a bullet.

    Just seeing this now.

To answer speculation and assumptions in this thread:

Yes - We got a new powder coater this spring.
Yes - They are doing a GREAT job for us.
Yes - They use a Iron Phosphate Pre-treatment.
Yes - The old days of peeling and bubbling are behind us.
No - We will not offer bare racks. Bare steel will rust before it ever gets to the customer.

The OP lives directly on the coast in Florida. That would be the source of the rust. Saltwater is brutal. It's in the air and it is inescapable. This is why we offer an aluminum rack now. Some environments require it.

We have had very few complaints, if any aside from this, with our new coater.

OP will be taken care of with a partial refund (for cosmetic issues, we are not replacing entire racks anymore like we have in the past).

First I’ve heard of a partial refund. I only wanted a rack without rust in this short of time. Just to be clear: I do live in Florida. I do not drive on the beach nor do I own a house on the water. Thousands of people in my little town have trucks and some even have ladder racks, bike racks, etc and many are just fine. I doubt that it’s my location that caused this amount of rust in this small amount of time. If this were to happen in a year or so I could accept it. The fact is I was blown off and I had to call out the product to get something done. Shouldn’t have happened like this.

Since that’s the case, it’s 100% a coating issue even if you do live in Florida. I just moved from Hawaii which has no way around salty air / sand, and my steel bits are still in fantastic condition.

I’ve tapped my BAMF sliders from @JLee several times, touched up the spots, and good to go! And that’s with his old powder, his new method is supposed to be even better and easier to home repair.

Good to see he’s offering help. Sorry to see his powder coat solution is still bad, but it’s not in house so it’s a little out of his hands at least. Maybe an issue he can bring up now.

So, was the OP's product powder coated by your new powder coater?

I’m not sure. There was an overlap early on.

Why aren't you able to ship bare metal when a lot of fab company ship their armors bare metal if you choose that option? I know from experience that my armor had a coat of oil on it to keep it from rusting when I got it.

A lot of companies under estimate the power of social media and how it can affect companies over night. The response by this vendor definitely has hurt him.

He’s a huge vendor here. He’ll be fine. Shit happens, and he responded here.

Again, not like he shut his doors down :) Seems like a simple enough fix between them now, and possibly sanding down and using a different application from here on out.

I’m sure he’ll be fine but he’s definitely taking some bad PR and has been for awhile.
