I hope he has a long running and successful business. Like I said in the beginning, this is not intended to be malicious. Just don’t piss on me and tell me it’s my fault for not bringing an umbrella. I planned on buying most of his products because they are well thought out and fit my lifestyle much more than many other vendor’s products. I may still if the dude doesn’t have me on a no fly list. Was it Florida or was it some old stock? I hope it was just raggedy ass old stock and I hope we come to an amicable agreement. Now...I’m gonna take my daughter to ballet and drink some IPAs afterwards. I’ll keep everyone posted on the outcome: the rack, not my beer or ballet.

For once being from Florida isn’t an excuse for something bad happening.

I live on the ocean in the northeast and have been through 3 winters in Maine and Rhode Island. I also park my truck on the quay wall by my ship and have come back to a truck covered in salt 2/5 days a week. Salt from the ocean and salt from, well all the salt, both liquid and rock they use for 6 months straight. All of my steel powder coated and/or painted components are rust free after 52k miles.

Your process is broken and you should change it. Stop blaming your choice of powder coating. It’s your product.

That's too bad I have or Had pending out come of this .... a full list of Items for the Xmas order end of this month from the Cargo Basket with the slides and two of the flashlight kits with mount (one for each truck) I just do not want another Pelfreybilt experience I do not trust vendors who attempt to slide the blame off when it is clearly in their responsibility. A vendor who can not take a hit and cover such a small item like this could be boarder line on the financial end unless proven otherwise I will start my search all over again and delete another vendor from the "fav" list.

That's great. Although not worth it in my opinion. His response has lost yet another potential customer.

OP. I ordered a rack sometime last year and after 4 months my PC was peeling off as well. Not as bad as yours, but it was and there was no abuse or off-roading on it.

Like you I was surprised and upset. I live in Oregon if that helps. After seeing the rust I did more research and well lessoned learned. I’ve had my Pelfrey bumpers longer and those have seen some abuse and never an issue with the PC.

@Shikokaon and @inesshell have different racks from other manufactures and have put those through the test longer than I had my rack and no issues with the PC.

IMO the process is flawed and it’s always been the same excuse.

Good luck to whatever solution you choose. I ended up selling mine to someone who didn’t mind stripping the original Pc and redoing it.

It doesn’t surprise me this is still an issue

I mean I did like the look of the rack design though. And it held my RTT and my weight fine. Just that darn PC.

Volkswagen used to be transported from Germany to the US by ship covered in cosmoline. Rust didn't seem a problem and there was a lot of salt air when floating in an ocean. Wash it with kerosene, shined like a wax job.

And blames it on where you live. Wonder how that'd hold up to a Salt Lake winter!!

Of course salty air is a catalyst.. But you failed to acknowledge the prep work and ensuring the coating is sealed correctly, both errors on proper quality check. Just chalking it up to 'we got a new coater' is sweeping it under the rug. How many are you going to go through? You're blaming a customer for living in Florida, yet you have issues with racks in other states. We have two entire coasts of states that 'live on the beach.' There are 23 states that border an ocean.. surely you're not just blaming saltwater.. while speaking of 'speculation and assumptions'.. :notsure:

@KB Voodoo you're getting a Christmas card this year that reads " ship it bare, we don't care " and will have a very provocative santa on it .

Haha. I still enjoy my rack. I'll probably gusset mine in the spring, but it's a great design. Slapped some new paint on there and I'm rocking and rolling now.

    To add to the hate...

I have had a set of the Tacoma bed caps for about 1 year. I live in very dry northern Colorado, the truck is not my daily driver, and does not haul metal or heavy loads against the bed rails. They started peeling/ rusting 3-4 months after install. This was not a part I would have ever expected I would need to redo. the product fit perfectly and works as it should, but I will never buy a product from them again. Its nothing personal and a good usable product, but I work 80+ hour weeks. I’m not going to buy more non moveable parts that require maintenance. I will need to spend a half day painting and remounting. Its worth it for me to just buy from someone else and not have to think twice about it. There’s enough companies out there right now to do that.

I agree with those who have asked for a raw option. I rarely buy anything powdercoated simply because there are far better paint options. Powdercoat is destined to fail in my opinion. Once the edges go your screwed

Like you, I really like the tailgate cap, it does exactly what I wanted. I went to Line-X, got it prepped properly and coated inside and out. I am not sure that I am glad I bought it but I think after the Line-X I think I am set for a long time. The cost was the initial purchase price plus $75 for the prep and encapsulation, kinda high.

Careful, don’t admit to adding any salt to your food or that may be blamed for your rust issues.

Yes. He sent me an email with a refund. I’m using the money to re-coat them with por15 or some other product. The guys here at my fire station are looking forward to the project. I still want the extended corners for my new Mt Rainier CVT RTT because I can’t afford another entire rack. I harbor no ill will towards Chad.
