He posted in 3/31/18 that they’d already improved their coating and used another new powder coat service.

So.. 4 months after that, here we are with more of the same rust issues. After 4 months I highly doubt your product is an old batch that laid around for almost half a year before selling.

We order huge batches of parts. Sometimes they hang around for a while.

grilla36 glad to see that you received a refund. I too purchased a rack from KB Voodoo and noticed some rust, then a whole lot of rust. Sent an email to KB Voodoo, the response was not what I expected, I was told to use touch up paint. Sent a second email with with two suggestions that I felt would remedy the problem. That was Friday 2/22, still waiting to hear back.

I am also disappointed, and am waiting for Chad's response. This problem is not the fault of the end user. IMG_2836.jpg

I would sand paint and sell ASAP and go with a true off road product. KB is bottom tier as far as quality. I went with Avid Off Road and I am extremely happy.

Bajatacoguy, Thanks for the info will be checking out the avid product. I appreciate it.

What techniques/method did you use to sand the rack. And what kind of primer/paint.

I have an air sander and went with the Rust-Oleum primer then painted with Red Liner. I took a bit of a lose after repainting and reordering two replacement parts that failed.

    Then I Sol It!

I’m glad I found this post. I have the 18” aluminum rack and some other stuff in my cart to check out. Anyone have any experience with the aluminum rack coating? Any other rack recommended?

It would all depend upon on the quality of the prep and coat. Aluminum, unlike steel won't rust through, but a poor coating will look like crap.
Ask for a written guarantee on the coating. The answer you get will speak for itself.

As for me, I'll find some time this spring to sand and repaint my steel rack. I also plan on looking into other products as well. Will check out the Avid product as mentioned above, but unlikely to happen this year.

I’d go with something else. I knew I wish I had after receiving mine. I ended up selling. Eventually I’ll choose RCI. Seems to be a constant issue with this product.

I’m surprised this hasn’t been locked yet like some of the other threads complaining about the same issue

As mentioned earlier, get it acid dipped then zinc coated, they add a top coat, it should last forever then.

Thanks, you confirm what I've been watching on YouTube diy. Looks like I will be able to strip it real easily, chemicals. Was going to use the etching primer then paint. Figure one day.
I figure I'll skip the zinc? Thoughts, worth the extra effort and time or overkill?

OEM's do the zinc coat... it is basically the best primer you can get.
