See if you can find a local shop that does it.

So you buy the product, then have to strip it, and zinc it, and paint it or it will rust away? Seems like the application of a proper coating should be done at manufacture, not after it starts rusting because the provided coating fails under normal and anticipated use conditions. Sure, you could find a shop and get this properly protected, but you shouldn't have to. My cargo bars began to rust almost immediately after installation. my powder-coated bumper guard from a different manufacturer has been there for 6 years and has no rust. Either do my two-year-old sliders.

It's all about the prep. Clearly the powder coater is not properly preparing the steel causing the rust.

Who cares if it rusts anyway in transit? If they're going to get it properly powdercoated, painted, bed-liner'd ... then you're going to want to do a full sanding at least by hand, and maybe with a media blaster. Rust along the way is just expected at that point.

All of the issues described in this thread are from a former powder coat company. We are doing everything we can to compensate customers who have had issues (with no compensation from the powder coat company that caused all of this).

We switched to a much better company last summer and the results have been night and day.

Changes made to our powder coat since last year

    - All steel is now laser cut with nitrogen for better powder adhesion on the edges.
    - Three phase iron phosphate pretreatment process.
    - Black Sandtex textured coating for better durability.

In addition, we have also improved our product line by offering parts made from aluminum.

Our tailgate caps and bed rail caps are now all aluminum.

We now offer all aluminium Hi Rise Crossbars: http://www.kbvoodoo.com/shop/toyota-tacoma-aluminum-hi-rise-crossbars-for-use-with-tonneau-covers

We have several aluminum bed racks here: https://www.max-modular.com/shop-max-modular

The point was shipping it bare as an option, the oil coating was just an extra step to prevent rust.

With your logic why package an item correctly. Any marks, scratches, imperfection on the way the customer can fix it themselves because who care if something is shipped properly.

I’m sure all the fabricators out there like to ship their bare amors just to have their customer received a new product with rust on it.

I tried to get a set of bed caps in bare metal because i heard the horror stories about his powdercoat. I was told it wasn’t an option.
The horror stories are true. It sucks. Chips off in big flakes and rusted almost immediately. Pathetic.

Sandblasted that garbage off and primed and painted instead. Lasting much longer than my buddy’s powdercoated set.

I must be the only person that has zero issues with powdercoating. I have one of his original Outboard Bike Mounts that has been sold and shipped a few times, left on all Winter and still no chipping or rust. I have had his bed caps for years and have no chips or rust even with the Outboard Bike Mount moving and sitting on top of it. I just most be lucky, but I will say when I tested the new bed bars for use with Tonneau Covers those peeled and chipped quickly, very quickly. Hope it all gets worked out.
