Many people are beginning to use these as a third brake light is now required in many areas. When running an RTT on a bed rack or a similar setup, the stock third tail-light on Tacomas is covered. Placing this behind the RTT may save you a potential headache! Here is @erok81 with it installed on his Tacoma.

My rack goes on and off, is there a connector you could recommend that I can plug it into for the full functionality when I have my rack and RTT on?

while I posted a link for an idea of what you need... I have not used that particular product from that manufacturer.

you are looking for an 8 pin weather pak connector. my suggestion is to make sure you have 2 sets of the connectors. you will use one full set to wire up the light. I would take the connector for light bar end out of the second set, modify it, and use that as a plug cap. this will help keep corrosion on the pins to a minimum when the rack is not installed.

Yes I agree with the above. You want an 8 pin connector (or if you can't find it, just use two 4 or 5 pin connectors) that is waterproof. If you have an electrical supply store near you that specializes in electrical they'll be able to help you out! Keep in mind that you'll need the actual plastic connector in make and female, AND the male and female metal pins (conductors) that you'll crimp and maybe sauter the the wires that will go into those plastic connectors. @tacozord has a really good thread that covers how to use plugs like this.

I don't have any 8pins on hand, but it will look similar to this (which I use to wire all of my switches inside of my cab to my RTMR fuse block):

I got some harnesses for my build, though I haven’t purchased the bar yet. What does street legal entail? And do you have any Tacoma specific harnesses or plugs to make installation plug and play?

Hm... I might have to look into this for my truck as my spare blocks the passengerside lights and this would mount up great to the rack. Time to do some research.

Street legal entails the product being in line with specific standards in order to be (those SAE certifications) street legal compliant. We do not make any plug and play applications right now, and I don't think we're planning on it either. It would take a knowledge of some pretty basic wiring skills/techniques to install.

Let me know if you have any questions!
