2005 has the slot for it, Toyota didn't start installing them on prod line until the 2006 model year.

Yes, you can put one in your 2005 - highly recommended

The only choice I know of is w/ or w/out activated carbon. I'll probably go w/ this brand next time. It appears to be of good quality and is $14.99, plus they have $2.99 flat rate shipping.

I went to Jiffy Lube today. They told me that my cabin air filter was "missing" (I have an '05). They wanted $40 to replace it (no!). It wasn't missing last time, so I went to check it when I got home. This thread showed me how (I had no idea except where it should be) and that it wasn't missing just didn't come with one. (Weird.)

    Thanks Rob2.7Taco & edm3rd! :)

The '05 has it as well. Same place, same filter. Another option is buy a large home furnace air filter and cut it to fit, it should make 2 or 3 so you can interchange or just toss the used ones.

No, just last April, so this is the 2nd time it's been in for service.

JL wanted $30 or $40 to put one in -- no thanks!

Funny, the Fram catalog shows no cabin filter for an '05, but STP does. I picked one up for much, much less than what JL wanted.

Anybody ever have problems with a constant and annoying "squeak" coming from this region when the fan is on the "Lo" setting?
In mine it sounds like every revolution the fan makes it gets caught up on something and squeaks.
But it doesn't do it on higher fan settings.

Yeah, on the 1st page, there is a sticky about the squeak. If it is bad enough to drive you to fix it, read up.

I just did this today with one I bought on Amazon. It was less than $8 (free shipping for Prime). The one I pulled out was nasty - I can't believe i was breathing air filtered through all that crap. Disgusting.

    Do this to your truck.

    Build thread in sig...
i buy the giant air filters that go into your home AC unit and cut rectangles out of them to fit in the truck. you get a big one to cut up and it works out to about $2 a filter :)

Last I checked, we were the only manufacture who made a carbon cabin filter for the Taco. OEM doesn't offer it so I think the aftermarket ignored it.

They're cheap enough that I just replace mine every other oil change.
