    i hope thats what you wind up doing man. the tacoma will always be there when you need a truck and something practical. Tundra is nice but its a bit cumbersome by its size. and i had a few subarus when i first started driving. i had a 2002 wrx as my first car... when i was done with it it was touching almost 400 whp... it was intoxicating. i miss my subarus more and more every day and will certainly have another when the time is right :) i even had a GC body 2.5RS .. all just fantastic cars , you wont be sorry.. subaru is awesome. and if you keep the tacoma, it'll all be in the family since toyota owns like 1/4 of subaru :)

    Traded my sti for my taco. No way would I buy another sti at this time...its much like the tacoma in that it's running a drive train from 2004 (tacoma 2005 I know.)

    New WRX with the 2.0 is interesting and gets good mpg but you'll always feel like the little brother.

    Focus RS is going to shake the turbod 4banger awd market up. 345hp. Hopefully Subaru has a new powerplant in the mix.

    the new rs is interesting, but its not proven... imo.... subaru = bullet proof and reliable , and still fast. you could quickly tune and bolt on your way to 345hp in a new sti if you really wanted to (not like it needs it lol).. and its rumored the new RS will have a "drift" button.. that instantly turned me off to it because well... its just silly :p but to each their own... i'm just stating my 2 cents lol

    Bulletproof? Not if you are one of the poor suckers that had piston ring land failures. My sti was quick, but it wasn't fast, real lame on the freeway. 345hp in a Subaru is a dead warranty..I'm no longer interested in spending more money than I should have modding a car to equal the performance of something I should have bought in the first place while compromising reliability.

    The drift button just sends more torque to the rear end to help induce oversteer, the rest is marketing

    Exactly, too gimmicky for my taste lol. And these new cars are pretty sorted out. Sorry about the piston ring though, that sucks, my 2002 wrx was slightly internally built to handle more boost and that was it besides supporting mods. The main thing you really have to worry about is the timing belts because they are an interference type engine, so just change your timing belt, water pump etc every 100k to safeguard against that. Thats the only major thing with subarus. And yes, of course, pretty much if you venture beyond a cat back exhaust and a drop in air filter warrenty goes bye bye on a new one, but you don't need any more than that, especially in a daily like op would like. Maintain at the correct intervals, and no crazy mods, a wrx/sti will last you forever

    Fast cars are cool until you become a responsible adult and realize how little you actually get to use it. Sold my Mustang, and while I still miss the drivability every day I do not miss the cramped space and not being able to really wring it out without getting into trouble.

    I will say once it comes time to get the wife a new rig it'll probably be a Charger R/T. Family friendly, reliable, decent mileage, and more than enough power for puttering down the interstate. The wife of course wants a Challenger, which at least still has a decent back seat ;)

    I think I'd get an ordinary WRX over an STI. That's all the performance I'll ever get to use in the real world, and a more comfortable ride. Less expensive, more efficient to boot. But that's just MY budget (and age) talking...

    I agree to this wholeheartedly. Less stuff to ever potentially go wrong on a wrx over its lifetime. When I get another subaru, it'll definitely be the wrx over the sti :)

    I'd sell the car, i'd keep the taco.. You'll miss that thing!
    I'd buy a t100 and make your taco a DD. Make the t100 your trail rig, so you can still do your yearly riding, but use it to beat up, and load it down with firewood.

    Except for the 5-speed is notorious junk vs the 6-speed in the STi. My brother has an 04 WRX and the trans is junk. Viscous coupler blew and replaced with a granny driven used one. That one blew too and now it has a brand new $700 VC in the 02 trans because the original 04 trans is no good. Rear end also blew out. Motor blew at ~50k and replaced under warranty. And this was not a modified car, owned since new. I don't know if Subaru made any upgrades but the drivetrain on the STi has always been more stout.

    First WRX transmission upgrade happened in 2006 didn't it, when they went 2.5 liter. Those will still pop but they aren't made of glass as the years prior were.

    Exactly. And I never personally had any issues with my 2002 wrx transmission, but it also comes with driving it like a human. I never beat on any of my vehicles, I assume thats why they last for me lol. And hey, people alot of the time prefer the feel of a 5 speed vs a 6 speed

    In my area I see so many young kids driving super modded STi's, and I wonder how they are able to afford it with such high insurance premiums and the fact that the STi is $30k+. Now that I am older, I'd rather get a Honda Civic Si 4-door for performance and snow traction. I mean its no awd or 4wd, but less things to break and more fuel efficient. Not to mention its also almost 10k cheaper.
