Haha! naahh not a V6, I am really happy with the 2.7. V6 will happen when 4 door will be needed, if you know what I mean

Welcome in my slow build! The Elan is a really good machine! love to ride it!

I would love an I4 over the V6. They're so damn reliable! Just need to gear it a bit lower and not be in a rush, but I'm never in a rush.

You serious? haha Of course they are reliable, but the V6 is also!

but I have to agree that by looking at @TYetti 2.7, you see that it brings you everywhere you go, without killing your wallet with gas haha 4.88 on 35's seems to be the way to go with those.

it is no bueno to be in a rush when wheeling, when you are in a rush you break stuff haha better go slow and save your investment:turtleride:

They are, except this head gasket problem has me paranoid! I have a gurgling behind the dash which means air is in the system when it shouldn't be. There's no leak, so it's likely that there's a small headgasket leak pushing exhaust gases into the cooling system.

So far there's no other symptoms so I'm just going to monitor it and hope for the best.

    Didn't told that mini story

When I went to the moose hunting shack, trails where kinda rough. buddy called me the other day and told me he had a broken sway bar end link. told him it must had happened when we went there. then thought, he don't even have 60K miles, and he broke stuff. I am at 157k miles, and didn't break shit! our trucks are solid! American brands are cheap af

Maybe you should take care of it soon. When wheeling slow you are more likely to be heating, and if there is air in the system, it won't cool down the engine the way it should be, and then over heating can occur, and then leaks, and then blown up engine, in the trail, far from home, because of a paper gasket. Don't want to scare you, but it can happen. don't mess with those kind of repairs lol

No I know, that's why I keep a very close eye on my temp.

Funny thing is that my truck actually runs cooler while on the trail because it's barely working. I'll hover right around 188-190 on the trail but on the freeway heading home I can get as high as 202 in the steep hills. If I notice that I'm running consistently hotter then I may take care of it. It's just so damn expensive.

funny of course! you know the average normal temp for highway speed?

we are talking about how much for that repair? would you do it yourself? I guess it's gonna take a whole week end since you have to remove a lot a parts from the engine... If you get on that job you should also do the water pump, rad flush, timing (belt/chain?) and also your pulleys you ordered(yet?) and all stuff engine related. will be expensive of course, but you'll dismantle the engine bay only once!

That's about normal! During the winter when it was around freezing, I would hit 192/193 on the freeway on those hills (they're pretty steep) so now that it's warming up it makes sense that the temps are rising a little bit.

It's not something I would attempt on my own, and the average cost is around $1,700 because you have to reallllly tear the engine apart. Not something I'm comfortable doing.

I know what you mean. most of the fees are time tho, that always piss me lol but for a job like that, you have to be really well organized to remember what goes where when you rebuild it, and to torque the gasket properly so it doesn't leak after. those are not axle seals, lol you really don't want to do it again lol

Haha exactly! We have a friend that's a certified toyota technician, so if it comes down to it, I may pay him like $1,000 and have him work with me and teach me how to do it. That way I save some money and he makes some good money for a weekend of work.

That would be the way to go! grab all the parts, every now and then, pile them in the living room like @Bocsy44 does, and then BOOM repair week end!

I don't know if Firestone is a chain up in the great white north, but if it is, they have a Lifetime Alignment you can get, then as long as you own the vehicle you can get it realigned for free!
