Found this thread while looking for similar builds. Going to look at a totaled '96 4Runner this weekend for a donor. Looks like a lot of good parts, 3" rough country lift, brand new 33" bfg's and an aftermarket arb-style bumper. Not sure of the bumper manufacturer but should know by the weekend. Overall the guy wants 1750 for the truck as is. I'd say this is a good start for a parts donor. Truck was flipped, still drives just fine with. No damage to drive train or lower half of the vehicle.

It should be fine if you want to use the ADD system. I'd probably offer less but that's just me

I plan on trying to talk him down a little. He was selling the 4Runner for 1500 without the bumper at first. Was gonna ask $650 for the bumper separately. After I mentioned I was interested in it all he said 1750 would buy it. Here is a pic of the truck. Tires are suppose to be like new, as well as new ball joints and cv axles. Would there be any issues with using ADD over manual hubs? Anything that I may need to know to use as bargaining leverage.IMG_7446.jpg

ADD is more common atleast in CA. The general consensus is if you want simple strong and "cheap" go manual. If you want convenance go ADD. Both systems seem to work fine so it's really up to you. if you use every single part off this truck then 1500 is a decent deal but if you want to do it correctly (IMO) you'll want to start fresh. Fresh meaning new seals, bearings, boots, bushings, etc. it adds up...trust me. So I mean Put it this way. If it's a 4x4 with the 3.4 and it's not crazy high mileage. 1500 would be a deal. You can sell the 3.4 for 600 bucks fast and then you'll be at 900 sell the rear axle get 100 bucks etc etc. you could probably make out ok

I had planned on using everything
But the rear diff and engine. Of course new seals and boots would be going on the donor parts. I figured with the lift, tires, and bumper this was a solid deal. Everything else would be sold.

Just finished the bedliner job. Talk about a pain in the butt. I purchased the rustolum bedliner kit and it worked well. I would suggest buying your own roller, the one they give you is not very good. It turned out well though.

And my new road dog mod

Yeah it seems like you have a bead on what could be a good deal. Just be prepared to sit on some parts and it'll take awhile to get everything tore apart.

Gonna be a fun project. Will prob do a bunch of pics and video for those interested. I've heard some people say they have issues with the 4Runner transmissions and the speedometer. May need to look into that and find more info
