Key fob programming

I’ve searched here and on YouTube for a way to program a keyfob for the 2016 Tacoma. I have a new fob with uncut key, am I stuck paying a dealer to do it? They quoted me $129 to do it.

 

It's not covered under warranty, or is this an extra key?

 

I bought it used and it only had 1 Fob. I bought another fob with uncut key from a forum member here.

 

Many locksmiths can program them and it costs less than the dealer.

 

I did hear they require diagnostic equipment to be connected to the vehicle to program the key.

 

I think this is pretty standard with modern vehicles today.

 

I dont remember that being the case on my 14 TRD
