I have a 2004 Tacoma extcab v6. Have the same problem. Left the key in ignition over night it drained the battery and yes the key will come out if you turn it fully right the left. But the problem was a bolt under the shift cover, I'm assuming the gaskets wore out and have left the sceen. There is a sleeve over a nut and bolt that shifts the gear shifter to the far right on the bottom left. Check if the washers. Are not there! I just push the sleeve over and go to park foot on brake and key comes out. Going to Toyota to get correct washers. Couldn't find a thing on the net.

The washers(spacers) aligns the gear shifter up with the linkage and triggers one selinoid. I believe there are at 3 selinoidsi did see an exploded view of there location on the net. Easy fix if that's the issue.
