It seems the Toyota app it's still connected to your truck and will ask you to opt in or opt out of data collection, even though you're not subscribed to any data plan. Have you tried opening up the App to see if this message pops up?

if you have push button start you can put the FOB in it and the truck will not detect it.

What I would like to know, is if this keypad can be used as sort of a theft deterrent device. I mean, connecting it in some way, so that one would have to enter a code on the keypad, before the vehicle would start? I would love that! When I bought my first tacoma, a 1996, at that time, the local dealers were installing something called a "ProLock" on the vehicles, before they would even put them on the lot. They worked with a plug, which was basically a computer chip that you would plug into a slot usually somewhere below the dash, as part of the ProLock system. The vehicle would not start without the chip being plugged in. Once it starts, you could either leave the plug in or unplug it. Most people would connect it to their keychain by a pull chain of some sort, so that once used to start the vehicle, you could simply unplug it and it would retract into your keychain. I loved it and we had it on our tacoma and RAV4. They don't make them anymore although there is something similar out there on the market retailing for $1000! Insane! So that is why I would be interested in this keypad, if it could be used in correlation to the push button to start on keyless entry systems. Thanks....

Kill switches are simple, cheap and easily reversible. Install three in random places throughout the vehicle and annoy the piss out of yourself every time you want to go somewhere
