Has anyone had any experience with the new Kicker L7T subwoofers yet in their Tacoma Double Cabs? For those that don't know, they look like this:
    https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20646LT122/Kicker-46L7T122.html

Besides their pre-made enclosures that sound like they are suspect in fitting, I was thinking about taking something like this
    http://www.audioenhancers.com/vehiclespecific/tac140.php

cutting the holes so they fit the square L7T's and installing behind the seats.

I have the comprt 10 with passive radiator now behind the passenger seat in the bin (with some modifications) and it is great with kick drum, rock, and some bass heavy songs with an alpine 500 watt amp, but like anything else would like more output. I would also upgrade my amp if I went with something like I described above, but does anyone have any input?

The 8” fits, the 10” and 12” do not.

I currently have the 12” version of the compRT loaded that you have. I have the bin fully removed, and also have the plastic seat backing removed. I got my hands on the 10” L7 and did a test fit and the seat would not lock back into place and the speaker surround was completely compressed into the back of the seat.

Thanks Destin, I was hoping you would comment. Its good to know the 10 and 12 options are off the table to hopefully save others the headache.

What do you think of the idea of loading a prefab box like the AE I posted and putting the l7s in after cutting the proper size holes? Do you think roughly .7 cubes gross for the l7t10 or 12 would be enough for decent deep bass?

I think if I had to pick an option, I would reach out to MrMarv and ask him if he could do a PORTED box for the 10 or 12. With a large sealed box, you may notice a slight increase in bass for the L7 10 vs your current setup. But I have heard the l7 10 in a custom ported box and it DESTROYS my 12” compRT with the same amount of power.

How do you pop off the plastic on the back of the seat?

If I remember correctly, pop off the corners on both bottom sides (where the main bolts are) and there should be 3 screws (one on each corner, one in the middle) and then the whole seat back slides down and pops off

I have an L7 8" sitting in the garage at the moment, along with a mountain of other stuff including the new kicker key 500.1. The L7 8 does fit as Destin stated, I had to razor out the rib in the middle of the bin (non-jbl) but it fits decently. There is access to the hooks if that's something you want to keep, btw. You'll have to put a little something against the front edge of the storage bin, the speaker surround is right on it. I have a grill on the way so I won't be worried about woofer excursion. Anyway, for $250, I think it fits great.

How it sounds? No idea, it's not in yet. The focals, two keys- 200.4 & 500.1, lc6i, sound deadening, full t-harness (radio to LR cubby where the rack is going and back) and power distribution box are a sizable task that I just started this afternoon.

I set the pics to thumbnail, how do I make them not so damn huge? I'm not trying to steal the show, just show a pic!

The 8" L7T in the Kicker prefab box. I have a CX600.5 amp and the sub channel is rated at a smidge over 300 RMS. Wondering if this is a better option than the 8" Comp R I have in a .5 cu sealed box.

I personally wouldn’t swap them out unless you just want to. Both sealed boxes, and both will be getting the same amount of power. I wouldn’t expect much (if any) difference

I mostly agree with Destin. However, you are getting more cone area, little higher sensitivity, and a bigger box that is probably optimized size for sealed. My guess is it’ll be a little noticeable, but for the couple hundred bucks... I’m not sure it’s be worth it.

In some ways I’m kind of in the same boat, I’ve considered options that would probably net me a little more volume/frequency, but to really see a significant increase I’d have to drop more than I’d want to at the moment (like my original idea). Although with that stimulus money coming and all...

Wondering if you cut in the plastic shelving if you’re sub would be have more clearance room to backseat.

It would and it wouldn't be bad to do but the grill should sort it all out. I'd rather not cut it, to do so would defeat having gone with the 8" preloaded box, I would have gone much bigger. I should be able to make and run the harnesses and finish the install tomorrow, ill post up whenever I get around to the sub and definitely when the grille finally shows up.

Dude that seems pretty substantial, provided you're willing to cut the ISO-Fix brackets out. (I want mine, I'll still have the carseat for a couple more years.)
