An option for guys looking for a snow tire for their third-Gen that also has some all-terrain properties. These are absolutely the best snow tires I’ve ever run on any truck. General Grabber Arctic LT in 10ply 265/75/16, E-rated

We’ve been in a blizzard/thaw cycle in my parts and I’ve got to try these tires in all typical winter conditions. I’ve driven through foot deep snow, compacted pastry snow (the worst), icy steep roads, and chunked out re-frozen chunder. No issues with traction at all.

The tires have massive tread depth, siping for grip on ice, stud-able if you choose (I didn’t), and apparently do not chip out on gravel (will report back on that) due to some advanced compound. Most importantly, my truck feels planted and stuck to the road. Not squirrelly and loose like my K02 did last winter. Very confidence inspiring. They also have a fairly open tread design, so I am thinking they will be ok when the ice turns to mud, or for wheeling up to find the snow.

Only issue at all is they are noisey on the highway. I guess that’s a small price to pay for all that grip.

Another issue is it’s hard to spin out and do donuts. You gotta work at it.

looks decent, I bought nokian hakkapeliita r3s this year because our weather is a little off. snows, melts, freezes to -30`C, and does the whole cycle again and again at least once a month and I really needed excellent ice traction.
EDIT: I just wish it had this kind of tread depth for deeper snow.

The tread depth on these is notable. In person, it looks a lot deeper than it does on camera. The tread depth is 16/32 compared to 15/32 for a new K02.

Those do look like they would do very well. Quite similar to the Blizzak tires I've had before that I swore by but yours are more of a truck tire

Gotta ask tho would these need to come off in the warm months like the Blizzaks? I always did but I've heard the soft compound on hot pavement just melts them

I will be taking them off for sure. They are just my winter tires so I want to keep them for that. I have a set of K02s on TRD rims for the balance of the year. The K02s are not good winter tires, but they are tough and surprisingly quiet, so I like them for 3 of 4 seasons.

These Grabber Arctic tires would be too noisy to drive on all year (for me). I imagine they are a lot quieter than a mud terrain, but they hum/buzz a lot more than my K02s do.

Ok just wondering. If you like these better than the Blizzaks I might look into these to put on my factory wheels. I have the Wildpeaks this winter & they do pretty good but these look like they would do even better!

These look great! The spec sheet on the website HAS to be wrong though. 40.4kg? That’s just shy of 90 pounds per tire. Someone must have made a mistake.

I feel they are better in deep snow than my experience with blizzaks. The blizzaks are good on ice, but these grabbers have been solid on ice so far as well. Also they are just a burly 10 ply tire. The sidewall has a thick rubber lip protecting the rim.

One of my main reasons for choosing this particular tire is I wanted a “hybrid” of sorts between an ice radial and an all terrain tire. I was led to this choice because of reviews that said this tire is not destroyed on gravel roads, which I drive a lot of. I found with Blizzaks, the sipes chunked our badly.

Hopefully these tires last better on gravel.

As you can see, they are fully siped. You can tell the sipes are working as there is snow in some of them. You can also see the ridges in the grooves designed to grab and hold snow for the “snow on snow” traction that winter tires are designed to give. A good winter tire (counterintuitively) should hold the snow, as opposed to a mud terrain, that is designed to be self-cleaning.

If I recall correctly, in 265/75/16 they are 54lbs a tire. I’ll see if I can find the spec. They aren’t driving like 90lb tires so the website must have an error.

54.8 lbs a tire. A bit heavier than stock, but when only running in the winter, no biggy.

We have the General Arctic Grabbers on my wifes Rav4 and they are great. If I was looking for new winters I'd absolutely buy them again. Cheap and they work.

The Grabber Arctic ‘LT’ are a different tread design than the Grabber Arctic, but I’m sure the family shares a lot of the same attributes. I’ll consider the normal Grabber Arctic next time my wife’s car needs snows.

Definitely interested & thanks for the info! I'll probably wait for Discount Tire to do another big sale again.

I'm so glad I got those crappy stock Toyo's off my truck. I'm confident I would have gotten stuck or wrecked my truck with those by now. Did nothing but spin tire in the rain so I can imagine what they would be on ice or in deep ruts!!!

Nice. I have the grabber artic studded (not LT) on my work frontier. Massive grip. Might be softer than the LT so maybe not as durable on the gravel. I agree. I also have the general altimax artic non-studded on my Tacoma and altimax artic studded on my awd vibe and previously on an outback. Hours and hours of snow and ice experience on these. They’re all awesome. Run wildpeaks in the summer.

Isn’t that a lot heavier than stock? Like almost 15lbs/tire? I feel a difference in 10lbs per tire in my truck.

It is a lot heavier than the stock wranglers, but only marginally more than my C-rated KO2s. Truthfully, I haven’t noticed much difference in acceleration, but I imagine my gas mileage is down some. I feel it justifiable for a few months a year. Crashing isn’t cheap either.

My impression of these tires just keeps improving. I’m entering “fanboy” territory.....but goddam.....General really got everything right. First time I’ve ever bought anything from General Tire. Always thought their name sounded like a discount brand. Truly impressed.
