I just installed a Kobalt Slime line truck box. When I turn the key so that the slot is horizontal, it doesnt keep the lid down. Looking inside, it moves the corresponding metallic lever into the up position. However this doesnt seem to stop any of the other mechanical parts from moving.

Am I missing something? Anyone else have this problem?

I got one on black Friday but have yet to open it because it's a "Christmas present" but if I were you I would take it back if you can.

Does anyone have a pic of what the locking assembly looks like when it is locked? Can you open the lid, lock it, and take a pic?

Just got mine yesterday. Not sure if it's a slimline. After reading your post I ran down to the garage to check my lock. Seems to be working fine. You should take it back.
I was looking for a black one but all they had was chrome. The guy told me to keep my reciept and if they had one come in within 2 weeks, i could trade mine for the black one.
Allready mounted it though, so i'm gonna keep it.

On my UWS low profile, the lid has a rod on each end that slides in the latch, these are adjustable up and down. After 2 months of owning mine the driver side rod came loose and I had to readjust it. Maybe the Kobalt is the same way :notsure:

I believe the lowes boxes are made by "Built Right" (Rite?, no sure of spelling). But I would check out that site for locking problems.

I bent the metal that rotates with the "key part" of the locking mechanism. So that does a better job of catching the unlock lever.

I'd prefer a pic of the locking mechanism in the locked position to make sure I have something that looks right.

I bought one the same thing happend to me. I took it back the day after and went to tractor supply. I picked up a much nicer box that was a lot bigger. I am very happy that I didn't keep the kobalt one.

You have to bend the locking mechanism on the drivers side of the tool box so that it "catches" with the part that holds it in place.

I have a question for you guys though, I bought the same box on BF and when it locks I can still pull the passenger side lever and the lid still opens, anyone else's do that? All I did was use an Allen wrench and unbolt the bar that connects the 2 handles from it. Now it takes 2 people to open but I feel my tools are safer.
