I kind of expected it to have leaked a bit.

Already talked to a shop in Sacramento, and got a pretty good quote even if we added full service.

They're only about two to three weeks backed up, with roughly a two or three-day turn around.

That's not to bad. How many miles do you have on them?

Well when I talked to King, they said a hit like that to the reservoir would definitely cause the shock to leak. Not sure if you saw the major dent...

Otherwise, it's never leaked before that, and the other shock hasn't leaked at all.

I inspect the 4R before and after every wheeling trip. I noticed the leak, and later the dent, after having gone up Bald Mtn. last time.

Since then I've stuck to the pavement.

Wouldn't be right if Bronx wasn't in the picture for a little camping trip

Anything to get installed has been put on hold until the new house is built.

For the time being, just taking her out to enjoy as is :burp:

If no one's noticed by now, a lot of my pictures either include the tiny 31" spare, or no spare at all.

Cooper ST Maxx have been completely out of stock since October of last year when I bought my 4.

I've checked on a weekly basis with my own company to see if we can order them yet to no avail; fast forward to a few days ago and I said fuck it and ordered a 255/85/16 Toyo Open Country M/T.

I have to say, holy shit are they more than true to size.

Falken Wildpeak 235/85/16 run at 31.7" so just shy of the 32's they claim

Cooper ST Maxx 255/85/16 run at 32.8" also just shy of the 33's they claim

Toyo Open Country M/T 255/85/16 run at 33.5" which well exceed the 33's claim

Was surprised to see the difference side by side -

I may be tempted to run them on all corners for even more height overall, but for the time being, it'll live as a spare -

I'll give it a year and a half or so (if I have the 4R) to go 35s :anonymous:

Using that awning every chance I get; hoping to take care of some maintenance in the near future.

For the meantime, some shameless plugs -

So for the past few weeks, I've had a "single click no start" scenario going on.

It was only until recently that it'd take me a good 2-3 minutes and many tries until my starter would spin up to start my 4R.

This pointed towards my starter being an issue.

With 279.9k and an original starter, it's safe to assume the contacts and plunger need replacing.

*Before working on anything electrical in your vehicle, disconnect the battery*

In order to access the starter for repair/replacement, we will be going through the wheel well shown here -

    20210630_103012.jpg

With the rubber shield out of the way, you can see what you'll have to get through -

    20210630_103421.jpg

First, you need to undo the brackets on either side of the frame in order to move your brake lines later.

Being a CA vehicle, the bolts come off easy, they're 12mm -

    20210630_104129.jpg

Next up, we'll work on the starter. Just pop off the plastic cover on the feed terminal to reveal another 12mm nut -

    20210630_104158.jpg

Once that's done, you've got a plug to undo just below the feed terminal. Some people wait until the end before pulling the starter out; luckily I was able to get it unplugged at this point in time -

    20210630_104626.jpg

Here's where the hard part comes into play, reaching the two 14mm bolts that hold the starter in place. The bottom one was taken care of with a 3/8" drive, 12" extension with a 6" extension and swivel at the end -

    20210630_104314.jpg

The top bolt? Well that was even more of a bitch.

You could try a series of swivels and extensions, but being that the bolt has a shallow head I didn't want to risk rounding it off if I slipped.

    So I did this

1/2" drive, swivel at the end, 6" extension (slight swivel, impact), 12" extension, a 5" extension, to another 5" extension (slight swivel again, impact), down to a 24" long breaker bar -

Once that was done, I thought FREEDOM! Until...

I remembered I have an auto, so this son of a bitch is in the way -

    20210630_124651.jpg

Fortunately, it's just a single 12mm bolt holding it in place -

    20210630_124658.jpg

    20210630_124747.jpg

Once that's out of the way, it's easy sailing -

I've had my gloves for over 10 years; would love a new pair if someone can recommend a quality set that still offers great dexterity.

Now that the starter was out, it was time to open her up.

You've got 3 bolts, 8mm, that need to come right off -

    20210630_131239.jpg

Once those 3 are off, you've got full access -

You can see the new plunger, next to the old -

Next up, the contacts...holy shit -

This side looked even worse -

These were in serious need of replacement. Not bad though for nearly 280k miles -

    All new goodies -

Really, for as many miles as it has, I am genuinely surprised at how little maintenance it needed. Doesn't even warrant a full replacement; good shit Denso

Seeing as how I work so much, we try and get out as often as possible on my days off.

Bronx enjoys every minute of it -

Thinking the next order of maintenance is a new thermostat, coolant, and installing my aux transmission cooler.
