It's been making noise forever though. I've called ECGS a couple times. They just keep saying they aren't worried about it. The air locker was bad on initial install. They made good and sent me parts instead of forcing me to ship back to them. But shit gets expensive when I have to pay a local shop for labor.

I'm really hoping they'll step up and send a while new diff and locker assembly so I don't have to rent a vehicle for 4 weeks. I still have to pay a shop to do they work either way.

Shop tells me the preload is wrong.

That's a bunch of pooooooo! Ecgs should send you a whole new diff and locker. I would guess you only used them on recommendations from TW. I think they get a ton of business from this forum. This is one of those situations that companies need to step up and do what's in there best interest regardless of if they screwed up or not.

I was just venting on Lisa exactly this. My shop already quoted me on doing the whole locker gear install.

I've literally used the locker twice. One in Moab (to avoid skinny pedal on one rock) and once in January climbing a snow covered incline. The idea of fixing any of this sucks ass.

Going to call them in the morning to discuss the issue and see how they will handle things for me.

Seriously ruined my entire day. This could end up being a huge waste of money. Already has been to some degree.

    Okay... @Juforrest, @T4RFTMFW, @MTgirl, @Daria

So @ECGS put me on the phone with their owner, Chase. Very different conversation with him than I had with the tech support guy. We had a long productive conversation. Ultimately I think Chase is stepping up and going above and beyond for me. Apparently he has an incredible memory as he recalls my original problem with the ARB Air Locker when my 3rd member install was done. He divulged some information to me about communications between ECGS and my local shop (Dark Horse Customs) that I wasn't aware of. For example, Dark Horse replaced my Pinion Seal last year when the ARB Air Locker repair was made. That information wasn't divulged to me in December when my Pinion Seal leaked and I PAID them to replace it. All the while asking them why a pinion seal on a 25k mile truck would leak.

Long and short of it is that Chase is sending me some new components to make repairs to my 3rd member here locally (which I'm very thankful for as this will save me from renting a vehicle for 2-3 weeks). Hopefully I can get said repairs done before next weekend's camping trip. However, some discussion was had about things they may have lead to causing my existing problems and Chase is going to talk to Dark Horse about that in hopes they will provide free labor to make my current repairs (let alone perhaps they should be refunding me for their inspection yesterday).

Well it sounds like a good news bad news situation. Sounds like your shop is maybe not so awesome. Hope this gets figured out. I doubt Dark horse(I think) will take getting told what to do by Ecgs very well.

They've stepped up in the past. Hoping they will again. If ECGS is correct i should get a refund for the $361 I got charged yesterday to investigate the issue and what I paid for a replaced pinion seal in December. Let alone the $50 I paid a driveline shop last week to "find the noise" because nobody was taking me seriously.

ECGS believes an install error caused the pinion bearing to fail. This leading to pinion movement and seal failure. Leading to grinding and noise. And they say they've never had a pinion bearing fail on an 8.4" Tacoma 3rd member.

New photo that ECGS gave me that they received from Dark Horse.

There's a small chip in one of the teeth on the ring gear. Chase feels the marks on the case are "superficial" and shouldn't be a problem. The good news is they don't see any signs of the gears being abused, burned up, etc. So there's no reason for anyone to not accept my word when I tell them I don't drive the truck too hard.

Got a call from Dark Horse. Sounds like they are going to provide labor to rebuild the diff with the new parts free of charge. Have an inquiry in about my charges yesterday to diagnose the issue. Figure of the issue was caused by them I shouldn't have to pay them to find the issue either.

No idea. Waiting to see if we can get a tracking number to find out when parts will arrive. ECGS said they'd ship today.
