Has anybody tried retrofitting an American multimedia unit into a Canadian vehicle?
Will it be fully functional if retrofitted?

Is there a reason Canadian vehicles don't get Entune? Canadians being discriminated by Toyota and other auto manufacturers is no new concept, but, for shits sake, I am getting sick and tired of paying more for less.

Our cell service in Canada is the same technology and frequencies as in the USA... it's more likely about being able to offer the services in French as well as English, as well as some content licensing issues.

I don't think the head units are any different, swapping them wouldn't do you any good. You still won't be able to set up the service.

One can never have too many light bars.
I personally blame the French. It's the obvious scapegoat. Eh?

Weather, traffic and music apps for your headunit.

My truck has it, but it won't allow me to set it up.

Unfortunately for us, even if Entune were available in Canada, the music apps like Pandora would still be unavailable.

To be honest, with Bluetooth Audio streaming available on most Toyota models now, having these sort of apps on your head unit are sort of irrelevant : Just load up the app on your phone, stream it over Bluetooth Audio and you're Gold!

Having weather and traffic would be nice though .

I know for a fact that Lexus (Toyota's little brother) has weather and traffic available in Canada on their head units which are just like the 2016 Tacos head units. The technology is all there. I do not know why we can't use it.

I second that, I'm in BC from the states for work, looked at it once and it's nothing special.

I have that unit. I bought it for the touchscreen, NAV, text to voice, voice to text. Could care less about the enTune feature.

Worked excellent for a month, but now the Bluetooth locked up. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr............

If you haven't done it yet; Delete the paired phone from the unit and vice versa and then re-pair them.

Lack of Entune is probably more about economics. Total number of units with the service available versus the cost of setup and operation.

I live in the U.S. and purchased a used 2017 Tacoma locally and found out after I purchased it that it was a Canadian model and didn't have the Entune apps. My truck has the Entune Premium audio system with navigation. I purchased an equivalent U.S. model Entune Premium headunit with navigation and installed it in the truck thinking that it would give me access to the apps. I also successfully registered the Entune app on my iPhone using the U.S. VIN from the vehicle that the purchased headunit came from. When I installed and started the headunit in my Tacoma, all of the apps were present but the headunit I purchased didn't have a map card. I inserted the map card from my U.S. model Rav4 into the new Tacoma headunit and the system went through a software update process. When the update was completed the Entune apps in the headunit were missing so the headunit must read the vehicle's VIN or some other piece of information indicating that the truck is a Canadian model and it disables the apps. I am posting this so that you don't waste your money or time trying this experiment.

However, if anyone can figure out how to get the headunit to think it is in a U.S. model truck, please post the procedure.
    Thanks!

Interesting. Have you resolved yet? Have you inquired with dealership? Valid issue to bring up with dealership which a number of folks online (me included) are curious about.
