Has anyone installed a ladder rack on a 3rd Gen. Tacoma with short bed? I'm Looking to buy a new 2017 Tacoma TRD Off Road Double Cab Short Bed. The only thing holding me back is I can't find a shop near by that can install a ladder rack. In fact the few shops I have called all say that there are no ladder racks for the 2016-2017. Apparently the new bed is made mostly of plastic. There are no anchor points that can be used to bolt or clamp down a ladder rack. I find that hard to believe.
Your suppose to use the deck rail system that runs across the inside of the bed to bolt or anchor down a ladder rack. Has anyone installed a ladder rack on a 3rd Gen. Tacoma with short bed (5 ft bed)?
The Tacoma I plan to purchase has a Tonneau trifold bed cover that sits on top of bed rails. I'd like ladder racks to work with the Tonneau cover, But I will completely remove the cover if I have to. Ladder racks are more important. The combined weight of my ladders is only 102 lbs. Any suggestions ?

I just installed the Rola rack on my 2016 SR. No drilling, very sturdy, and cheap, but a pain to install.

The Rola Rack was what I was looking to install. In a black matte color. It clamp on no drilling just like you said. I called a few accessories shops, & they won't install a rack like that. They said there is nowhere to properly clamp the rack down, because the top & inside of the bed is all plastic. They would be clamping the rack to plastic , & with the weight on top off racks you run the risk of damaging the truck bed.

The rack is supported by the top of the bed sides and clamped to the channel that the load tie downs ride in. It's all metal. The top of the bed has a rubber like pad, but there's metal underneath.the other racks I looked at(Trac rack etc.) screw into it. Rola rates the rack at 800lbs. and I see no reason it won't hold that.

Rola # 59799.png Rack with clamps.jpg Thanks for the Info. I searched online and I think I found the answer. (First Photo)) This Rola Part # 59799 fits 2016 Tacoma. " Designed specifically for bedrail system". It should also fit a 2017 Tacoma. (2nd Photo)This is the other ladder rack I was shown with clamps.
I was told this would not fit a 2017 Tacoma. I believe this is for 2015 and older Tacoma.

The bed widths are the same as the 2nd gen Tacoma's,was having a tough time finding a "headache" rack for a 2017 until I measured a 2007 to find there the same width and side rail

It's stock except for the Trac Rac and DU seat covers _-:)
    TracRac vs Rola?
Does anyone have experience with both? I have owned TracRac and like the quality..price is a bit high and I'm curious about how well it mounts on a 2013 Taco?
I am not familiar with Rola. Price looks a lot better, mounting looks OK but the quality does not appear to be as good as TracRac?
I haul canoes..old canoes, wood and wood and canvas, ones I've made or restored. I need to 100% sure that the rack system is solid.
    Would appreciate any feedback.
Not keen on roof mounts, hitch, cab or other weird crap systems that show up in some related threads...just at a really good bed mount rack that I can put a couple canoes on.

I did this. A bed cap with side open doors fits under it.
