Betting all the complaints were from v6 owners. They designed something to be seen and not used just like the eng mount brackets that wouldn't hold up to v6 offroad use, the magic bending tailgates & 7 yrs of shitty non-truck use leaf packs....or at least just did enough to get by with to make sale. Either way, just more lameness at consumer's expense timewise even if warrantied and/or moneywise too if not.

I was wondering who is going to make the first ATRAC joke lol

Makes perfect sense because ATRAC would have prevented me in going to the places that I have been to in my Tacoma :cookiemonster:

Crack(s) kill (trucks). Drill the end of any crack you see! :) It may not stop it completely since the strength of the peice has been reduced by the crack (if the now reduced cross section can't handle the stresses), but it can slow things down so that you will have something to repair! :)

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Will check this out on my truck next time I am near it, but with the 2.7 I doubt it is putting out enough power or torque to crack the frame, hopefully that is the case! I have only done soft core wheeling with it so it has been pretty lucky!

You would have to support the trans/tcase with a jack or jack stand if you are willing to replace the X member yourself. It's a fairly easy job that will require a 14mm socket, 6" socket extension or a deep 14mm socket, pry bar and a can of WD40 or similar type lube.

Hmmmm. I'm curious if I can just buy the cross now. Instead of trying to find one. For my conversion

I would fab something up to gain some clearance and strength if you're doing a 4x4 conversion...

Well the plan is to find one or buy one, cut it at the ends and add extensions slightly angled up is what the guy that is welding whatever I get had decided. Myself No can weld. lol.

OK so this looks to be a pattern failure for those of us who like to use the 4x4 feature for heavy off road use .
Is this just happening with the manual transmission or the automatic as well ?
Interested to know if the crossmember is the same for both the manual and the auto ?

Manwithoutaplan ' s tacoma is a manual so it's happening to both. The cross member is the same. I believe that you should have the revised cross member that is welded all the way across the entire length so you shouldn't have to worry. Would be easy to check what version you have just be looking at it.

Haha. I realized this. I was just wondering how much force was on it and if the transmission would stay up with out it.
No problem. I got lots of tools and jack stands. Thanks

You'll probably will need a medium sized mallet or hammer to help pound that sucker out. The pry bar will help with that but may need help with a heavy blunt instrument :cookiemonster:
