Update: They do touch the stock mud flaps and front wind guard. I pulled a fast U turn to the left and there was rubbing I believe on the front wind guard. I just removed all the factory plastic and took it out for an aggressive drive and I didn't hear any rubbing on extreme right and left U turns, just slipping tire rubber. I am heading for some moderate-heavy off-road this weekend and will provide another update shortly. The 265/70/R17s are definitely the "proper" size for a factory suspension, but so far, the 275s are working. Off-road update to follow.

Could you post what wheels you bought with specs such as the offset and backspace numbers? I'm looking to do the same as you and wanted to know if I absolutely need to lift it before putting these tires on.

Yup, factory size tires sure fit the truck.

Alright, made it off-road this weekend. Had about a 35++ degree descend off the highway to get into the bush, went in on a 45 degree angle after scoping the best entrance. My girlfriend started freaking out cause she thought we were going to roll over, not going to lie I straightened out the front end before I knew I had a proper approach cause it was steep. A truck stopped on the highway to see if we were in trouble, probably thought we were in an accident. But we made it in no problems. A couple KM down an ATV trail with a few stops to clear branches off downed trees, but made it to the lake we were going to camp at. Moderate off road, maybe light to some experienced drivers. Anyway, no issues with the tires rubbing at all. When I travelled back out and climbed back onto the highway, I have a standard transmission so I climbed out faster that I should have...wheel wells caked in mud and not a mark internally from the rubber. From my research there can be a large rake difference between factory Tacoma's. My truck has a little over 1" rake stock. Anyway, this was my experience...but I am new to 4X4 so take what I say with a grain of salt. The 265X70R17s are probably the right oversize for the truck, however the 275s are working for me.

I am going to be honest, I don't really know. Tacoma's come from the factory with a slightly positive offset and the POS Steelies I put on are neutral, so not sure how much of a measurement difference there is. From my experience, having removed the factory plastic and running neutral offset rims, the 275/70/R17s work. I like the tires and if they didn't work, or I find they don't work later, then I'm prepared to install a cheap 1" leveller in the front end. Rears are no issue.

Photos of the steely setup? It'd be nice to have a set off good tires to take off road and beat on as well. Sounds like the truck held up well?

Truck held up great. It walked back up onto the highway like it was paved. There were a few previous ATV tire marks, but I was definitely the first truck in there. I'll try and take some photos and post, but they look like crap compared to the previous set-up in this thread. But, I put them on steelies so I don't mind aiming for boulders. :) Update to follow.

How much bigger in height are the 275/70/17's compared to the 265/70/17?

They are 0.6" larger in diameter, so they would raise the truck 0.3".

I made it out to my off-road campsite. Got some nice clear coat scratches, but I bought the truck to get me places and not look pretty in the driveway. Moderate to heavy off-road, bit of rock crawling. Only stalled the manual once though. ;) No rubbing with the oversized tires. Inspected the wheel wells and saw no rubs in the mud.

How's the toytec 2.0 lift ride on road? Would you recommend it for daily driving and occasional weekend off roading? Or more towards off roading?

Looks good with stock suspension, where are people mostly ordering their TRD wheels from? Seen couple people go through eBay but feel you run the risk of getting non OEM wheels . Gonna try and call the dealership see how big of a price difference they sell em for.

Will your manual crawl in 1st gear on its own or do you need to feather the clutch a bit? Any time in 4LO yet??

Got my TRD Pro 17's from eBay/Lexus of Miami. Great price and service. Also running 265/70/17's but a little rubbing with the WT mud guards in the front. I've got a "No Flares" SR5.
