my same thoughts. but i used to always see a white VW Amarok (?) also a Mexican market truck. Ventura's a hot bed for foreign trucks apparently.

I saw a bunch of hilux's in Morelia, Michocan MX last week.
And I only saw one 3rd gen silver Trd sport dcsb 4x4 in a smaller town south of Morelia.
I also saw a ford raptor when traveling back to the airport.

In a related note, I saw a Colorado in Cabo today with different facia than the US model. It definitely looked more European, similar to the Hilux. It also had different sheet metal on the bed sides. Unfortunately I couldn't snap a photo of it.

better payload but smaller bed. same towing for the most part. narrower than a taco but with less insulation so its quite roomy with the spartan padded seats and lower side crash cushions.

it covers all bases from farmers to trades people more so than commuting and freeway tuning.

Yes on both. The chassis is generally rated higher than the Tacoma.

Taking the Hilux SR5 Double Cab 4x4 configuration, the gross vehicle weight is 3,000 kg with a curb weight of 2,045 kg, which mean 955 kg or 2,105 lb payload. The DCSB SR5 Tacoma Auto is rated at 1,175 lb payload with GVWR 5,600 lb and curb weight of 4,425 lb. Total combination weight rating of the Hilux is 5,850 kg or 12,896 lbs. The DCSB Tacoma is 11,360 lbs. The Hilux can tow 3500 kg, or 7716 lbs, braked, the Tacoma 6,400 lb with trailer package.

    Hilux Double Cab:
    Length (mm) 5330 - 209.8"
    Width (mm) 1855 - 73.0"
    Height (mm) 1815 - 71.5"
    Wheelbase (mm) 3085 - 121.5"

    Taco Double Cab, Short Box:
    Overall length 212.3"
    Overall width 74.4"
    Overall height 70.6"
    Wheelbase 127.4"

As ugly as it is, I've always heard the Hilux is tough as nails. And if the stats @DaveInDenver provided are correct, its a better performing "truck."

What motor options are available in the Hilux?

They get a couple of diesels, the 2.8L 1GD-FTV and 2.4L 2GD-FTV as well as the 2.7L and 4.0L gasoline. The gas engines are the 2TR-FE and 1GR-FE, essentially the same ones we get/got.

The Pickup we got from 1979 to 1995 was a Hilux, more or less. So you can judge for yourself really. Lots of them still bouncing along just fine.

I'll stick with my previous model as spent too much money on it and the new model has a few issues at the moment.

The new model does look a bit strange but with some after markets bars and things they would look better.
