    Correct, 28mm. 5thGen 4Runner is 24mm OEM, so is tundra. 4thGen 4Runner is 22mm, Tacoma is 18mm

4runners be chunky like that. Same with the LCA bolts which 3rd gens went up to the FJ cruiser size from the 2nd gens.

Can you believe a 2500 duramax uses 18mm also? Just helped a buddy put solid piece rods on his truck. He bought land high in the mountains and has been going to the clear trees to make room for a cabin. Bent his tierods two times already. 18mm Tacoma clevis bolts screwed right in.

Even though 4Runners have a larger inner tierod, they are more prone to bending for some reason. Seems like 4Runners are prone to bending inners while Tacomas snap outers.

Sounds like he needs an LC rack too!

Is the design different? I know on 1st gen Tacos and 3rd gen 4runners the otr’s are interchangeable as long as you get the matching lower ball joint that they attach to. The 4Runner’s otr’s are bent and the Taco’s are straighter leading some guys (like me) to put the Taco otr’s and lbj’s on their 4runners.

The rod thickness is about the same, just has a larger bolt that threads in.

    I don’t have much experience with 1stGen Taco / 3rdGen 4Runner tierods.

As a heads up to anyone wanting to modify the LC rack (shorten the width) the rack gear is hollow and not ideal for machining purposes. The gear teeth also are stamped vs machined. Not sure if the latter actually makes any difference, but worth pointing out.

That said, I have an LC rack for sale if anyone is interested, otherwise I return it and pay the restocking fee.

I saw Stellar built installed this and I asked if it had any bump steer and they said it has none. Surprising to hear

Would it be possible to machine a lip, so the factory boots could still be used? Or is that shoulder too small to work with?

I think the bolt is too wide to go over the boot, the tundra boot is 2” wide at best when stretched out, and I think the bolt would tear it.

Do you mean the diameter of the opening at the end of the boot? The clevis isn't larger than the tierod it goes over, is it?

The rack side yes, the bolt head and nut stick out quite a bit from the clevis.
