I just put these on my tundra rack with heim steering and so far it seems to be working without tearing. I tried a straight style boot and the heim bolts tore thru. These boots have a larger center diameter so they seem like they will clear the bolt and nuts.

If this shoulder was longer and it had a groove big enough to accept a boot clamp, couldn't you use the factory boots?

Or would that make the whole clevis too big?

Then the rack wouldn't be sealed, which is the whole issue.

Nice, I am running the taco TREs with the Tundra boots for now, may go to heim in the future and will keep these in mind.

    Teach me, man.

Isn't that where the clevis bolts to the rack? If so, how would that be different from how the boots seals the ITREs?

Genuinely trying to wrap my head around this.

The boot needs to attach to the rack body rather than the gear (the part that moves in and out), so dirt and crap cant get between the rack body and the rack gear. If you attach it to the heim, that is the same as if you attached it to the tie rod essentially, which is attached to the rack gear, and not sealing the rack innards.

Maybe I misunderstood, you are saying attach the outer part of the boot there, and the inner to the rack body. That would seal it, but that part goes inside the rack body at full lock and would pull the boot off.

This is good info, thanks. I'm currently trying a shock boot on one side and an inner tube on the other and both only lasted a few months without tearing. Not a huge deal because the inner tube is cheap and easy to replace but if this boot fits well (and lasts) then it would be a worthwhile investment.

@Wishbone Runner yes, I was thinking the boot would attach to the rack in the standard spot and then you mill a spot on the clevis to catch the outer end of the boot. I didn't realize the clevis slides into the rack at full lock. That throws my idea out the window.

Oh well. Thought I had a good idea.

Got a sweet deal on this steering rack that’s been modified by @Basikbiker to work with my 2ndGen Tacoma. If you’re looking to beef up the steering in your Tacoma, he’s the man to talk to!

After @Basikbiker's work, what else was needed for install?

You gotta cut the factory barrel mounts out and then put new ones in that Travis can supply or you can make ur own.

Trying to do my own research as much as possible without asking too many questions. But I take it the Tundra rack once modified is more "Plug & Play" than the LC200? Are they comparable on durability? Just had a failure (actually snapped) of my spindle that also took out my rack, and want to beef up both going forward.

Did you have to fab everything yourself to do the 200 swap, or is there a kit available with templates, barrels, etc?
