For these, and frankly everything, the high millage synthetic with the zinc is what I use. It's great oil.

I didn’t touch the half moons on mine with valve cover gasket replacement and I guess I got lucky, they are still holding.

I purchased an Airens Platinum 24 Snowblower a few years ago and went back to the dealer for some input on what kind of oil I should use for the first oil-change. Me: "This Airens oil on the shelf?" The three guys behind the counter all responded in unison: "The Kawasaki 5w-30." Me: "Why": It doesn't have a Kawasaki engine." Them: "High Zinc content". I got the 2 qts of Kawasaki oil. I believe it's conventional oil... I'll check and confirm back) $4.50 each and worth it since it's 20 hours from now on. I change at end of season regardless of hours....it seldom reaches anything approaching 20 hours. (It hasn't snowed here much the last three years ) I also use it on my John Deere Garden Tractor and my Toro trim mower.

    * Apologies in advance about another "oil change thread": It's a sickness. At least it's not Friday.... that has to count for something. :proposetoast:

This is what breaks in nascar engines......that's what it was designed for.

Valvoline VR1 Racing Motor Oil SAE 30 (valvolineglobal.com)

and the best stuff to break in flat-tappet cams.

Most high milage auto fluids dont usually refer to zinc or anti wear additives....

it usually means it has esters in it to swell the seals a little to get a little more life of them......
.......if you dont have leaking seals......that could be a bad thing, it be an early demise to already existing ones that are yet to leak....

Thanks for all of the responses and sorry for the late reply.

The valve cover gaskets and sealed cam plugs, stopped most of the leaking. Did not replace the 1/2 moons. Now just a drop a day even if we are not driving it. doesn't look like the oil pan. I'll find it, just wanted to say thanks for all of the helpful replies.

Check the PCV valve and hose(s) too. If there is too much posative pressure in the crankcase due to worn piston rings and the PCV system cant handle it, it will continue to push oil past the seals/gaskets etc.

Sounds like the epoxy garage floor was looking for a reason to exist hehe
